ed out cool and sunny. The Le-
RoyLittleLeagueParade started
at the Legion and made its way
to the Field. After a super pro-
gram introducing all the teams,
showing off our new scoreboard
and dedicating the season in the
memoryofDavidMiller,Mother
Nature took over and sent the
rain. Itpushed theopeninggames
toSunday.
Where would you rather be?
The fans were treated to 3 great
games on a sunny Sunday after-
noon.
GAME 1
Indians 5 Twins 1
The IndiansandTwinssquared
off in the 2014 season opener.
The Indianswere led at the plate
and on the mound by Maxin
McKenzie. At theplate,McKen-
zie led off the bottom of the 1st
inning with a hit and eventually
scoredfromsomeaggressivebase
running. The Indiansadded three
runs in the bottom of the 3rd
when McKenzie, Tyler Slaven,
and Cody Lytle scored after all
reaching onwalks.
The Indians added another
run in the 4th inningwhen Finn
Shelby scored from 3rd base on
a heads up play from a dropped
thirdstrikecall.TheTwinswould
notbeshutout though.TheTwins
got on theboard in the topof the
6thwhenChaseBordonarocame
around to scoreon a triplehit by
ZachBaker.
Maxin McKenzie provided
an efficient performance on the
mound going 6 strong innings.
McKenzie gave up 2 hits allow-
ing 1 run while striking out 11
batters. Andrew Loftus pitched
well for the Twins going 4 1/3
innings striking out 10.
Hitting for the Indians were
Maxin McKenzie (2 hits), and
Finn Shelby collecting his first
LittleLeaguehit. At theplate for
the Twins, Ethan Beswick dou-
bled andZachBaker hit a triple.
GAME 2
WhiteSox 7 Yankees 0
The White Sox and Yankees
opened the season with a great
game,which theWhiteSoxwon
7-0. TheWhite Sox opened the
scoring in the first inning by
gettingRBIs fromTommySaun-
ders andColmRoster giving the
WhiteSoxa2-0 lead. TheWhite
Sox scored 2 more runs in the
second inning and added 3more
in the 5th. Ryan Friend pitched
a complete game shutout for the
White Sox. Friend gave up 4
hits and had 11 strikeouts with
0 walks. Andrew Tygart was
on the hill for the Yankees and
pitched a solid4 innings striking
out 6 and walking 6. Kyler La
Cartepitched 1 inningandhad3
strikeoutsand0walks.Hitting for
theYankeeswereKylerLaCarte,
GrantGilligan,RyanHigginsand
Tyler Klein who each had 1 hit.
Hitting for theWhitesox: Kenny
Saunders 3 hits, Ryan Friend
3 hits (2 doubles) and 3 RBIs,
Tommy Saunders had 2 hits ( 1
double) and 1RBI, ColmRoster
had 2 hits with 2RBIs, and get-
ting his first hit in Little League
wasMikeBuccinnawithasingle.
GAME 3
Tigers 3 RedSox 0
The third game of the day
featured the Tigers and the Red
Sox. This game was dominated
OpeningDayOfLeRoyLittleLeague
by pitching. Reece Tresco went
for theTigers and JakeHill took
the mound for the Sox. Both
pitchershandled theother team’s
line upwell.
The game remained scoreless
until the 3rd inning when Luke
Caccamiseof theTigerswasable
to score from thirdon a throw to
2nd base. The Tigers were then
able to push 2more runs across
in the 5th inning as Giovanni
Caccamise and Joey Brennan
bothscored.TheTigerswereable
to hold on for a 3-0win.
Tresco was masterful on the
mound going 6 innings allowing
1 hit, 2 walks and striking out
17. Hill was up to the test also
going 4 1/3 innings allowing 3
hits, 4 walks and striking out 7.
Nick Engel came in to pitch the
final 2/3 of the inning collecting
2 strikeouts.
At the plate Jake Hill had a
single andwalk for theRedSox,
while Alex Panepento collected
the other walk. For the Tigers
ReeceTresco had 2 doubles and
GiovanniCaccamisehadasingle.
James Blake, Austin Saeva and
RileyWood also got on base for
theTigers.
