AROUNDTOWN
byStephenR. Barbeau
Supervisor, Town ofLeRoy
Hi folks! Some updates and a
number of new items to inform
you about from the Town this
month.
First, a bump in the road has
occurred regarding the Genesee
CountyEDCproposedproject at
Rt.19/WestBergenRoad.RG&E
has informed us that it does not
have the capacity, at present,
to supply required natural gas
to the site and that it would be
very costly for them to enhance
their system.Meetings andmore
research are in progress but this
does mean a delay in the pro-
posed project.
Next, the Town has accepted
a very generous donation, from
Mr. Henry Hansen, of the for-
mer LehighValleyRR bed from
West Bergen Rd. to Buckley
Rd. in Stafford. First off, this
in noway is related to the 1970
derailment/spill that occurredon
Gulf Rd! In fact, I have walked
this stretch and will be meeting
with representatives from Staf-
ford and Batavia to determine
if we can turn this into a larger
county-wide hiking/biking trail.
At the very least, itwill enhance
the recreation opportunities in
LeRoy. At present, it is closed
to all (no trespassing), but I will
keep you informed as to when
it will be made available to the
public. Thank youMr. Hansen!
TheTown has also accepted a
purchase offer by Zoladz, Inc.,
for the formerTownDump,west
of Neid Rd., for $95,000. As
withmost real estate transactions
of this nature, there are some
contingencies to iron out, but
the general purpose of use for
Zoladz will be to grind munic-
ipal “green waste” (tree limbs,
leaves, etc.) into sellablemulch.
This is a seasonal operation, less
intensive than itsoriginalmining
anddumpingusesof thepast, and
endorsedby theLeRoyBusiness
Council.
On another good news front,
State bid prices for a new plow
truck came in lower than expect-
ed (approx. $218,330 totallyout-
fitted w/warranty) and purchase
bids for our old “for sale” trucks
came in higher than expected
($43,030).TheBoardauthorized
both the purchase of the former
and sale of the latter.
Finally,SAVETHEDATE!Fri-
day, August 8, 7:00 PM! LeRoy
Business Council is sponsoring
a LeRoy Night at Dwyer Sta-
dium where the Muckdogs will
face off against the New York
Yankees affiliate fromStaten Is-
land. Therewill be an all LeRoy
sectionwithprizes, recognitions,
andfireworks to follow thegame.
Stay tuned for further details and
reducedprice ticket information.
