LeRoyCentral SchoolDistrict
has received a $10,000 grant
from America’s Farmers Grow
RuralEducation, sponsoredby the
Monsanto Fund. The district will
use the money to purchase new
lab equipment and instructional
materials, allowing teachers to
incorporate advanced, hands-on
experiments inupper levelscience
classes for high school students.
Through thisenhancedscience
curriculum, thedistrictwill intro-
duce students tohigher-level lab
activitiesandspur their interest in
biotechnologyandother science,
technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) careers.
“The projects will expose
students to technology they
wouldn’t otherwise have access
to,” said biology teacher Mi-
chael Chiulli. “This experience
makes them more competitive
for collegesandcareers, andwill
hopefullyencourage them tostay
