LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 7, 2018 SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ADVERTISERS! They help sponsor the local news section of the Le Roy Pennysaver. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Junior Knights Submitted by: Joseph Bogue The LeRoy Junior Knights hosted the Geneseo Blue Devils last Sunday on a hot and sweaty day at Hartwood Park. The 2-0 Knights looked to BLOCK out the 1-1 Blue Devils and the Hot Sun at the same time. Colin Green, LeRoy’s work horse running back, understands the saying, “if you block, you get the rock”. This motivational saying inspires running backs the importance of blocking at this position. Colin took this mantra to a new level against Geneseo with several open field blocks. Blocking defenders is hard and not glorious like scoring or catching and is the most crucial element on offense. LeRoy’s line consisting of stars that now only refer to themselves as 1 unit and a nickname or two dictate the pace. Wojo, CP, Jeremiah Sheehan, Simon Green, Root Beer, Tuna and Jordon Greene opened holes on the first drive that was an 8 play barrage of physicality. This physicality allowed C. Green to gain 58 yards on LeRoys first scoring drive. He shared 7 yards with Jordon Greene who caught a 7 yard dime from Brady McClurg. C. Green scored from 10 yards out and benefited from his backfield running mates blocks from Jude Christ and Isaac Stella. McClurg would add on a 2 point conversion from a devastating Colin Greene block to make it 8-0. Geneseo on offense for the first time hit the big hard sun and Isaac Stella, Simon Green and Donovan Gaillard. They were in or on 3 consecutive stops that accounted for no gain and a punt. LeRoy & Geneseo would both struggle with finding momentum on offense on their next possessions. Both teams had punt or turn the ball over on downs. On LeRoy’s 3rd possession, Colin Green would set the tone with a 17 yard scamper. Then he continued the theme of the day with a block that made the spectators gasp in silence. Colin executed and perfect fundamental block on the Geneseo line backer. Versatile Jordon Greene took advantage. Jordan hit his turbo button and zoomed 12 yards into the end zone for his first career TOUCHDOWN! LeRoy is up 14-0 at the half in a very tough game. Geneseo came out in the 2nd half down 2 scores and looking to pass. The Blue Devils challenged Brady McClurg, two times with no success. On pass attempt 3, Josh Colopy and Donovan Gaillard ended the series with swarming penetration and a tackle for a loss. LeRoy, near midfield, feeds Colin Green on this series as he shreds the Blue Devil D for runs of 20 & 19 yards. Geneseo now keying on Green gets pounded by the big blocking back Jude Christ. Christ dashes over the line and breaks into the secondary and nobody was eager to challenge him at full speed, TOUCHDOWN LeRoy! The first official TD for Christ as he thanks Tuna and the offensive line for the 11 yard beast like effort. LeRoy Knights widen the lead to 20-0 midway through quarter 3. Geneseo with possession 5 finds a trio of nasty 3rd graders. Ryder Stiles sticks the middle on play 1. Then Kade Olivani who has just missed tackles in the 2 previous games joins Austyn Silvernail with a tackle that causes a fumble that Silvernail recovers. The Junior Knights, with some swagger, strike fast. Brady McClurg passed a laser to Isaac Stella. Stella, finishes it off with power & flash for a 30 Yard TOUCHDOWN! LeRoy, now wearing out Geneseo physically and mentally goes up 26-0 into the 4th quarter. Geneseo with seemingly limited offensive options has to go to the passing game and score early and often. The Blue Devil quarterback drops back only to find LeRoy’s Josh “Porkchop” Colopy who loves sacking QB’s. Colopy devours the play like he would a ...... Pork-chop and gets backed up on the next play from a rising star, Andreas Condidorio. Condidorio gets his first tackle of his career. On 3rd and long, Geneseo desperate, lofts a pass up the middle that LeRoy’s athletic Isaac Stella picks off for an easy interception. Brady Mclurg then takes a busted play that was supposed to be a handoff, 35 yards into the end zone from a perfect block from......guess who? Colin Green on FIRE! TOUCHDOWN LeRoy! LeRoy in command 32-0. Geneseo with one last offensive possession would get stopped almost single handedly by David Wojo with some help from his buddies & classmates, Jude Christ, and Ryder Stiles. On LeRoy’s final possession, Jeremiah Sheehan busts a 15 yard, hulk like run up the middle. Tommy “Effort Boy” Clifford, is all hands and feet, caps the LeRoy Junior Knights day with a crowd pleasing TOUCHDOWN! “Touchdown” Tommy “Effort Boy” Clifford with his first career TD and the longest nickname in the CYFL..
