LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 7, 2018 The Alzheimer’s Association® Western New York Chapter is planning a special three-part education program at LeRoy Village Green at 10 Munson Street in LeRoy. Once a month through December, LVG will host the programs that may be of particular interest to dementia care partners, but are open to all. The first program, Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, is set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. This program covers the basics about the disease and related dementias. Part two, Effective Com- munications, will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Novem- ber 6. This program is ideal for care partners of those living with Alzheimer’s disease or oth- er dementia, as it offers verbal and non-verbal strategies for caregivers to more effectively understand and communicate. The final installment of this series is slated for Tuesday, De- cember 4. Understanding and Responding to Behaviors will help care partners recognize that behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with Alzheimer’s disease to commu- nicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. It will cover some common struggles and offer sound strategies to ad- dress them. The Chapter encourages attendance at all three programs but it is not required. These programs are all free to attend, and pre-registration is greatly appreciated to ensure there are enough materials and to relay any changes to the programs.
