LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JANUARY 27, 2019 by Stephen Barbeau Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6190 ext. 231 The Town Board held its annual reorganization meeting on January 10. The “nonrou- tine” business was to welcome new Councilman Bruno De- Fazio. Bruno brings much prac- tical as well as previous town board experience and we are all pleased to be working with him in 2019. At our regular meeting that followed, the Board accepted, with much appreciation and regret, the resignation of Judy Ridley as Adult Recreation Di- rector. Judy has done a fantastic job organizing the senior meals, meetings, trips, and music in the park series. Thank you very much Judy for your service and dedication to our community adults. Should anyone have in- terest in succeeding Judy (she has promised to help with the transition), please email me at Supervisor@leroyny.org or drop a letter off to the Town Clerk’s office. The new LED lighting has been installed at both the Town Hall and Highway Garage. Ev- erything is much brighter and we should start realizing the savings on our next electric bills. Speaking of savings, I have previously spoken to you about the future reduction in the growth of sales tax revenue the town will receive from the coun- ty due to the state mandate of a new jail placed upon the coun- ty. Rather than initially react by raising taxes or cutting services, the board has authorized me to enter into an agreement with an investment company, three + one, to look at ways to max- imize our investment income. Therefore, beginning this year, in consultation with three + one, I will be moving town monies among a variety of higher in- terest yielding money markets, cds, and treasuries. We have estimated that, short term, these investments will net us approx- imately the loss we will realize with the loss of sales tax reve- nue growth. Being a small town, there, of course, will be a limit as to how much revenue we can generate off interest but, while increasing interest rates are not helpful to borrowers, they are beneficial to savings. Finally, in cooperation with the Village Board, I do want to inform you of increased services within our code enforcement of- fice and some personnel chang- es. We now have three part-time code enforcement officers. Jeff Steinbrenner stays on with us. He will be responsible for man- aging the new Vacant Building Registry (which has all ready achieved some positive results within the village and town) and completing the required fire inspections of public build- ings. His office hours will be by appointment, phone 768-6910 ext. 243, email jsteinbrenner. code@leroyny.org Bob Daw- ley will be leaving us in a few days. We thank him very much for helping us over the last year, particularly by increasing ef- ficiencies in a variety of areas. Thank you Bob (Bob has also generously offered to assist in a substitute role if needed in the future). We welcome Anne Podolak and Mike Risewick to the code office. Anne is a cer- tified code officer with exten- sive experience, particularly at the collegiate level, and time as a City of Batavia Council- woman. Anne will have office hours from 9 AM- 4:30 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays, phone 768-6910 ext. 225, email apo- dolak.code@leroyny.org We also welcome Mike Risewick to the code office. Mike is coming to us after a decorated career in the military and his leadership skills will translate perfectly with his new town duties. Mike will have office hours from 9 AM-4:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, phone 768-6910 ext. 223, email mrisewick.code@ leroyny.org Please recognize that there will be no formal code enforcement office hours on Mondays unless previously arranged with the appropriate CEO. Please also understand that extensive work in the field is required for effective code enforcement, so even during the listed times a CEO may be out in the field. It is best to call in advance. Both Anne’s and Mike’s cell phone numbers will be listed on the town’s web page once they have settled in. This reorganization is another exam- ple how the town and village are trying very hard to provide solid services within our budget parameters. Thank you very much and see you Around Town.
