Rose- mary has extensive background as a local businesswoman and volunteer for a number of com- munity organizations, and we know the transition from Judy Ridley to her will be seamless. Sometimes when you at- tend a recognition event, it is the “small item” that impresses one. That was the case for me as I attended the recent Fire De- partment banquet. In addition to recognizing the selfless con- tributions of our volunteer men and women, I would like to re- lay a few stanzas from a poem that was used as the Benediction for the event- By Ruth Bash, I found these words most fitting and words that could also be applied to our police and ambu- lance first responders: Day or night, sunshine or snow Your firefighter is always ready to go When the call comes in, they do not inquire Just how serious is this fire They don their clothes, take off in their car To help you and yours, wher- ever you are They do not question the lo- cation it’s in The place or creed or color of skin Extensive training and proce- dures to learn For your safety is their big- gest concern They chance their very life for you and I That on each fire, no one may die Finally, for those that know me, you know I am a pro- ponent of term limits for gov- ernment officials. Shortly after my re-election three years ago, I let my Party officials know that, most likely, this would be my last term. After 16 total years of time on the Town Board (8 as Councilman and 8 as Su- pervisor), I formally informed my Party I would not seek a third term as your Supervisor. As with all my predecessors as Supervisor, the hope is we left the Town in a little better po- sition than when we came into office. The operative word here is “we”. And, I think we have accomplished that. With that in mind, I would like to take the opportunity over the next sev- eral months thanking some of those who, over the last eight years, have helped us accom- plish much. As one of our prima- ry goals was to help keep the public better informed of is- sues confronting the town and board, we addressed this in two main areas. Thank you to David Grayson and the LeRoy Pennysaver for allowing me to publish, at no cost nor space limitations, my monthly column (even sometimes being gracious enough to allow for more than one per month). More than any other specific action over the last eight years, I received many positive comments for pub- lishing agenda-type issues and keeping folks updated. The Le- Roy Pennysaver is a great host for “Around Town.” As another means to fur- ther that same goal, we invest- ed money into IT infrastructure and redesigned/expanded our web site. This was done with the expert consultation of Le- Roy resident Tony Testa. Each year we met with Tony to up- date a five year plan and, while our web site does not contain the fancy color or expanded graphics (and thus cost), we do keep it updated and it contains much info that would be helpful to the resident (many positive comments from new residents) and guest alike. Tony has been an invaluable aid to the Town. Two great examples of how local consultants helped us achieve our goals. Thanks to them and see you Around Town.
