Milne Scholarship will be held May 17, 2019 at the LeRoyan at Mercy Grove. Tickets will be available for sale through Rotarians in the very near future. The Club will have a volunteer team for the United Way Day of Caring on May 22, 2019. The Community Kitchen continues to thrive at serving meals and providing a social outlet to those who attend. The Rotary Club of Batavia will be celebrating its centennial at Batavia Downs on May 10, 2019. Finally, President Jim Ellison will be returning on a service trip to Uganda and encouraged other Rotarians to come along. Missed Meetings: Tom Feeley and Betsy Halverson each sacrificed several green cards for missed meetings. Tom McGinnis, although not fined, came clean that he missed a meeting. Tom McGinnis was fined for the baseball success of his grandfather, Walter J.V. Maranville, also known as “Rabbit.” Lynne Belluscio recently posted a picture of Mr. Maranville’s plaque in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Betsy Halverson was fined for changing her own brakes and rotors (and Tom McGinnis promptly offered her a job at his shop). Finally, Bob Carlson was fined for providing a rendition of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First?” skit. The fine was prompted by a picture that surfaced on social media of Dodgers’ player Chin-Lung “Hu” standing on first base. The presentation for the day was a YouTube video of Steve Lingenbrink titled “Why I’m in Rotary.” Mr. Lingenbrink spoke about the positive experience Rotary has had on his life. As a member of the Bellevue, Washington Rotary Club, Steve relayed his positive experience with Rotary being an inclusive club that provides great discussion and community service opportunities. Mr. Lingenbrink completed community service projects all over the greater-Seattle area, but also took on international projects to provide clean water, dental services, and computers to those in need. As the video stated, if you work eight hours per day and sleep eight hours per day, what are you doing with the other eight hours?
