Shelly Stein, Genesee County Legislator joined the meeting as a guest. The first order of business was the announcements. President Jim Ellison thanked Mary Young for running the Board and Lunch meetings in his absence. Next week will be committee meetings. Graze to Raise tickets are available through Samantha Vagg. Batavia Rotary will be having their centennial celebration on May 10th at the Batavia Downs. United Way’s Day of Caring will be held on May 22nd, please see President Jim if you are interested in volunteering. Bob Bennett thanked everyone who helped make the Easter egg hunt a great success. Approximately 220 kids attended the hunt. Due to the inclement weather, the eggs were handed out to the children. Sam Vagg reported there were 90 people in attendance at last week’s Community Kitchen. ARC is still accepting clothing in Batavia for victims of sexual assault. Past President Scott McCumiskey announced the appliance raffle will be held October 13th. Randy Vink announced there will be a meet and greet for new Rotarians on May 23rd at Creekside. Please bring a prospective member to the meet and greet. There will be a service opportunity Saturday, April 27th at President Jim’s mother-in-law’s home at 87 Wolcott Street. President Jim presented Lynn Belluscio with two checks for the bench at the Viet Nam Veterans’ Memorial and for the Little Library project. Tom Feeley, Tracy Ford, Tom McGinnis, Bob Boyce, Jason Karcher and Tammy Arneth had missed meetings, but make-ups and green cards were offered. Fines included Bruce Baker for a Facebook post of his trip to Florida. Bruce paid $10 as his fine. Phil Plossl was fined $5 for a Facebook post his wife shared. Bob Sullivan was fined $5 as was Martha Bailey and Mary Margaret. Bob Bennett was fined $10 but Scott McCumiskey generously offered to pay Bob’s fine. (All fines are applied to unpaid dues.) Shelly Stein, Genesee County Legislator gave a detailed presentation of her duties as legislator, including several committees she currently sits on. Ms. Stein shared that she also sits on several advisory committees and if anyone has interest in joining an advisory committee, to please let her know. Some of the highlights from her presentation were the ongoing water project in the county as well as the jail renovation. The jail project will be increasing the number of beds to 184. Ms. Stein gave a detailed report on State mandates and the effect they have on Genesee County. On a personal level, Ms. Stein shared that while her duties as legislator keeps her busy, she is first and foremost a farmer. Stein Farm employs twenty-two individuals as well as having five families currently living on the farm and they have over 1,000 cows. The farms sprayers are out now and they will begin seeding soon. Ms. Stein thanked the members and all people in our community for their patience during this time of the year. The meeting was concluded by thanking the Ms. Stein for her presentation. The Rotary Club of LeRoy is helping to wipe polio off the earth, funding over $35,000 in scholarships for local graduates, feeding hungry people at the Community Kitchen twice each month, and saving the lives of babies in Uganda? Accepting gently used items from cleaning out, leftovers from estate sales, garage sales or moving. Drop off or pickup can be arranged. Not accepting clothing or electronics.
