LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 12, 2019 LeRoy Little League Week 1 Results Tigers 6 Indians 1 The Tigers and Indians squared off in what would be the opening game of the 2019 season, after Opening Day was postponed due to weather. The Indians scored the first run of the year on an RBI by Austin Bogue, scoring Noah Kaczanowski, after consecutive walks by Noah, Jagger Smith and Adam Woodworth. The Tigers plated one of their own in the bottom of the first when Elijah Iten plated Alex Spezzano (leadoff single) with an RBI single. Scored tied after one, 1-1. After a scoreless top half of the second inning, the Tigers would score 5 runs in the bottom. Evan Rose led off with a single followed by consecutive walks by Tommy Clifford and Alex Spezzano. Xavien, X-Man, Walker would then start a hit parade with a single that was followed by a triple by Jacob Iten, single by Elijah Iten and single by Zander Staba. Tigers 6, Indians 1 This would be it for the scoring in this game as pitchers from both sides settled in to shut down both teams the rest of the way except for walks by Alex Spezzano and Avante Walker for the Tigers and two singles by Noah Kaczanowski for the Indians. Final Score – Tigers 6, Indians 1 Handling the pitching duties for the Tigers was X-Man Walker who threw 2 2/3 innings of 1 hit ball including 5 strike outs. Alex Spezzano tossed the remaining 3 1/3 innings, allowing 1 hit and recording 8 K’s. Elijah Iten led the Tigers at the plate going 2/3 with 2 RBI. Alex Spezzano had a hit, 2 walks and scored 2 runs, Xavien Walker added a hit and run scored, Jacob Iten a triple and run scored, Zander Staba a hit and Tommy Clifford with 2 walks. Noah Kaczanowski recorded 2 hits, a walk and run scored for the Indians. Adam, Bucha, Woodworth and Jagger Smith added walks. Adam Woodworth, Austin Bogue and Martin MacConnell shared the pitching duties for the Indians. Red Sox 5 Orioles 2 The Red Sox and O’s faced off for their first game of the season. Landen Stoddard started on the mound for the Red Sox. In the first inning, the O’s would leave one runner on after a Jayce Jedrewski single to right field. Chase Cummings would take the mound for the O’s in the bottom of the first. The Red Sox would leave two runners on after back to back singles from Isaac Stella and Haven Cordes. The second inning was scoreless for both sides. The O’s had another scoreless 3rd. The Sox would get things started in their half of the third. Stoddard singled to right field, then Cordes hit an rbi single to left field. Alex Stephany then singled driving in Cordes. Sox up 2-0. The O’s picked up 2 runs in the 4th after Jay Lathan and Jeremiah Sheehan drew walks followed by a couple throwing errors by the Sox. The Red Sox would answer right back when Cole Tonzi singled to start things off. Stoddard would also single, then Stella and Cordes tacked on singles and each picked up an RBI. Peter Clark then hit a shot into center to add another run. Red Sox 5 O’s 2. Alex Stephany would come in to pitch for the Sox and only allow 2 hits to finish the game. Brayden Chase would finish the game on the mound for the O’s allowing only 3 hits. For the O’s Chase Cummings pitched 3 2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts. Brayden Chase threw 1 1/3. Hitting for the O’s were Cummings with 2 singles, Jayce Jedrewski and Aiden Weaver each with a single. Pitching for the Sox were Landen Stoddard going 3 1/3 striking out 5, and Alex Stephany going 2 2/3 with 5 strikeouts as well. Hitting for the Sox were Haven Cordes going 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 RBI’s, Stoddard and Stella each with 2 singles and an RBI, Joey Vernacini and Cole Tonzi each with 2 singles, Alex Stephany and Peter Clark each with a single and an RBI. Twins 11 Indians 6 Details to run in next week’s edition. Tigers 10 Orioles 3 The Tigers would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on singles by Alex Spezzano, X-Man Walker and a RBI double by Jacob Iten. J. Iten would score on a RBI single by Zander Staba. The O’s would be held scoreless in the bottom half despite a walk by Luke Lathan and single by Jace Jedrewski. Tigers 2, Orioles 0 The Tigers added another run in the second inning when Tommy Clifford scored (Leadoff walk) on singles by Alex Spezzano and Xavien Walker. After a scoreless bottom of the second by the O’s, the Tigers stretched the lead to 4 – 0 on an inside the park home run by Zander Staba. The Orioles, ready for a rally of their own, would come right back to score three runs in their half. Brady McClurg, Chase Cummings and Luke Lathan drew walks to load the bases to bring up Brayden Chase. Chase would reach on an error that scored 2 runs closing the gap to 4 – 2. Aidan Weaver would follow with a big RBI single making the score Tigers 4, Orioles 3. Alex Spezzano led off the 4th inning with a single followed by a walk by X-Man. Both scored when Jacob Iten drove a single to right center for 2 RBI. Tigers 6, Orioles 3. The Tigers would add four more runs in the 5th inning. Evan Rose led off with a single and Nate Pangrazio reached after being hit by a pitch. Then with 2 outs, Alex Spezzano hit an RBI single, X-Man Walker singled and Jacob Iten finished it with a RBI triple. Tigers 10, Orioles 3. At the plate for the Tigers, Alex Spezzano was 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored followed by Xavien Walker, 3 for 3 with a walk and 3 runs, Jacob Iten 3 for 4 with 4 RBI a triple and a double. Zander Staba was 3/4 with 2 singles and HR. Evan Rose added two singles and run scored, Tommy Clifford had a hit, walk and run scored and Nate Pangrazio reached after being hit by a pitch and scored. Jack Clifford recorded a RBI. For the Orioles, Brayden Chase had a single and scored a run, and Cam Maxwell singled. Aidan Weaver walked, singled and recorded a RBI. Brady McClurg and Chase Cummings both walked and scored runs. Luke Lathan added a walk. Indians 5 Red Sox 4 (7 innings) The Indians and Red Sox played through wet and muddy conditions on Friday night in an exciting early season battle. Adam Woodworth started on the hill for the Indians with Alex Stephany toeing the rubber for the Red Sox. The Red Sox would score first in the top half of the opening frame. Isaac Stella singled and would later score on an error. However, the Indians answered in the bottom half of the first scoring 3 runs. Noah Kaczanowski led off with a double and would come around to score on a RBI single by Adam Woodworth. Noah then scored on a RBI single by Austin Bogue who then would score on a long sacrifice fly to center field by Martin MacConnell. However, the Red Sox would claw back to tie the game at three in the second inning. Colin Green led off the inning with a single and would come around to score on a double by Landon Stoddard. Stoddard would then score on a RBI single by Isaac Stella. The Red Sox wouldn’t have the lead long though as the Indians would take the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the third when Adam Woodworth reached on an error and would later score on another error. The score remained unchanged until the top of the 5th inning when Peter Clark launched a solo home run over the center field fence that hit the flag pole and knotted the game 4-4. However, in the bottom of the 7th inning the Indians would score the game winning run after Adam Woodworth reached on an error and would come around to score on a passed ball. Woodworth pitched 5 innings for the Indians striking out 6. Martin MacConnell would get the win in relief pitching 2 innings and striking out 3. For the Red Sox, Alex Stephany led the way on the mound striking out 6. Offensively, the Indians we led by Noah Kaczanowski and Austin Bogue with 2 hits each. Adam Woodworth and Jagger Smith also had hits. For the Red Sox, Isaac Stella led the way with 2 hits while Landon Stoddard (2B), Haven Cordes, Peter Clark (HR), Alex Stephany, Joey Vernacini and Colin Greene also added hits. Twins 9 Yankees 5 Details to run in next week’s edition. Red Sox 9 Orioles 6 (8 innings) The second meeting between the O’s and Sox would turn into an 8 inning extravaganza. The Sox batted first starting off hot with a single by Landen Stoddard and Isaac Stella. Peter Clark then ripped a double into left field scoring Stoddard and Stella. Joey Vernacini then singled driving in Clark. Red Sox 3 O’s 0. The O’s answered right back with walks to Chase Cummings and Brayden Chase. Cummings would score on a passed ball, then Brady McClurg singled to score Chase. Red Sox 3 O’s 2. The Sox struggled to get much going for the next couple innings. The O’s would pick up 2 runs in the 3rd from hits by Cummings, Chase and Jayce Jedrewski. In the 4th Colin Greene got things going for the Sox with a single followed by a walk to Andreas Condidorio, Stoddard and Stella. Haven Cordes then ripped one into center field scoring Greene and Stoddard. Red Sox 5 O’s 4. The Sox would shut down the O’s in the bottom of the 4th. Then tack on 1 run in the 5th from a Colin Greene RBI single. Red Sox 6 O’s 4. In the bottom of the 5th the O’s would fight back making things very interesting, scoring 2 runs and evening things up. Cummings singled to center followed by a single by Chase and Luke Lathan. Jedrewski then drove in a run with a shot to center and McClurg picked up another RBI with a fly out to center. Red Sox 6 O’s 6. The Sox mounted an attack in the top of the 8th scoring 3 runs from a couple walks and an RBI single from Vernacini. In the bottom of the 8th the Sox would stop the O’s with key plays from Vernacini and great pitching by Stella. Hitting for the Sox were Stoddard and Cordes with 3 singles, Vernacini, Tonzi, and Greene each with 2 singles, Clark with a double and Stella with 1 single. Pitching for the Sox were Landen Stoddard going 4 1/3 solid innings, and Isaac Stella for 3 2/3 with 8 strikeouts. Hitting for the O’s were Cummings and Chase both with 3 singles, Jedrewski with 2 singles and McClurg and Luke Lathan both with a single. Pitching for the O’s were Chase Cummings going 4 2/3 with 8 strikeouts. McClurg, Jedrewski, and Chase would pitch the remainder. Yankees 7 Indians 6 In the second game of the day on Saturday the visiting Yankees would lead off the first inning with a Cameron Riggi single. Jake Higgins would follow with a single of his own. Connor Elmore would reach 1st after a dropped third strike. Jude Sherman drew a walk and all 4 batters would score in the inning. Wyatt Draper added a single and an RBI. The Indians would fight back in their half of the first inning scoring 3 runs after Jagger Smith drew a walk, AdamWoodworth singled, and Austin Bogue singled. All 3 Indians would score in the inning and Martin MacConnell would add a single and a RBI. In the second Jake Higgins singled but was left on base as the Indians would hold the Yankees scoreless. In the bottom of the second the Yankees defense would turn a double play but would allow 3 hits to Noah Kaczanowski, Jagger Smith, and Adam Woodworth. Noah would score in the inning on an Adam Woodworth RBI to tie the game at 4. Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd. In the forth, the Yankees would retake the lead 5-4 after Cameron Riggi singled and was later scored on a Jake Higgins RBI single. The Yankees would hold the Indians scoreless in the forth. In the top of the fifth the Yankees would add 2 runs. Jude Sherman lead things off with a line drive triple to left field. Wyatt Draper then drew a walk and would steal second while Jude Sherman stole home. Draper would later score in the inning on a sacrifice groundout by Anthony Warner to put the Yankees up 7-4. The Indians would add a run in the fifth after Adam Woodworth singled and was later scored on an Austin Bogue RBI double. Going into the 6th the Yankees 7- Indians 5. In the sixth Yankees hitter Jake Higgins would again single but was left on base as the Yankees were held scoreless. The Indians would make it interesting in the bottom of the 6th Noah Kacz would single and Jagger Smith would reach base and score on a Adam Woodworth RBI single. Woodworth was left on base and the Yankees would go on to win 7-6. Pitching for the Yankees Wyatt Draper struck out 6 batters going 5 and 1/3rd inning. Jude Sherman struck out 2 in 1 and 2/3 innings. Pitching for the Indians Noah Kaczanowksi recorded 2 strikeouts, Austin Bogue recorded 6 and Jagger Smith recorded 2 strike outs. Tigers 11 Twins 0 For the third game in a row, the Tigers would score in their half of the first inning. Alex Spezzano and Jacob Iten reached on singles and were driven in by Zander Staba on a 2 RBI, 2 out single. Tigers 2, Twins 0. The Tigers would score 4 more in the second inning. Tommy Clifford led off with a single. Nate Pangrazio would reach for the second game in row on a hit by pitch. This was followed by a single by Alex Spezzano and triple by X-Man Walker. Walker would come home to score on a RBI single by Elijah Iten. Tigers 6, Twins 0 After a scoreless third inning, the Tigers would add 2 runs in the 4th, 2 runs in the 5th and tack on a run in the 6th. In the 4th, Evan Rose would drive in Jacob Iten and Zander Staba with a 2 RBI double. In the 5th, Evan Rose would record another RBI as would his dugout mate X-Man Walker. Jack Clifford was responsible for the final RBI of the game when he plated Evan Rose who had reached on a single. Final Score – Tigers 11, Twins 0. On the mound for the Tigers, Alex Spezzano recorded 17 of the 18 outs while recording 11K’s to go with 0 walks and giving up 2 hits. Jacob Iten recorded the final out. For the Tigers, Alex Spezzano was 2/5 with 2 runs scored, X-Man 2/5 with 2 runs scored. Jacob Iten had 2 singles and scored twice. Elijah Iten recorded two singles. Zander Staba scored a run to go with a single, double and walk. Evan Rose had 3 RBI to go with 2 hits and a run scored. Tommy Clifford had two hits and scored. Avante Walker doubled, walked and scored. Jack Clifford had a single. Sierra Burke singled for the Twins and fan favorite, Benito Bautista drove a hard single to left field. Grady Gilligan and Joey Reschke shared the pitching duties for the Twins.
