LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 19, 2019 LeRoy Little League Week 1 Results Orioles 7 Twins 2 The Orioles and Twins squared off for the first time on Monday, the Orioles looking for their first win of the season. Luke Lathan took the mound for the O’s and shut the Twins down in the first. Joey Reschke toed the rubber for the Twins. The O’s struck early, as Lathan would double in Chase Cummings and Brayden Chase who had both walked. Both pitchers allowed no runs in the second, with Lathan striking out the side in the 2nd and allowing no runs in the top of the 3rd either. The O’s offense struck again in the bottom of the 3rd. Another walk to Chase Cummings and another double by Luke Lathan would plate Cummings. Luke Lathan would then score on a groundout by Brady McClurg, extending the lead to 4-0 O’s after 3. The Twins however fought back in the top of the 4th. A walk to Holden Sullivan would start things up, with Sierra Burk singling after. Liam Grayson would knock both in, however would be stranded at 3rd after a couple of passed balls and strikeouts. In the bottom of the inning Jay Lathan would walk and eventually score on a sac fly by Brayden Chase, score 5-2 after 4 innings. he Orioles would add 2 insurance runs in the 5th, powered by a Jace Jedrewski triple, walk by Brady McClurg, and single by Aidan Weaver. Luke Lathan dominated the last 2 innings for the O’s on the mound, striking out 5 to earn the complete game win. On the day, Lathan struck out 11, only walking 2 to earn the W for the O’s. Hitting for the O’s were Lathan with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, scoring once. Jace Jedrewski also had two hits, including a triple, and scored. Aidan Weaver and TJ Crissy also singled. Also scoring for the O’s were Chase Cummings (3 walks, 2 runs), Brayden Chase, Brady McClurg (run, RBI), and Jay Lathan. Joey Reschke and Liam Grayson shared pitching duties for the Twins, striking out 5. Both also singled for the Twins. Other hitters for the Twins were DJ O’Geen with 2 hits, and Jack Egeling and Sierra Burk with singles. Burk and Holden Sullivan scored for the Twins. Red Sox 5 Tigers 2 The visiting Red Sox took on the undefeated Tigers in a Tuesday night showdown. Xavien Walker took the mound for the tigers in the first. Hayven Cordes ripped a triple into right field and Peter Clark would then step up and pick up an RBI double. In the bottom of the first Alex Stephany took the mound for the Sox, and with the help from his tremendous defense the tigers would be held hitless. X-man would then shut down the Sox in the second, holding them to no hits as well. The Tigers threatened in the bottom of the second having a runner on third having hits from Zander Staba, Evan Rose, and Tommy Clifford. But the Sox would get out of the inning with no damage done. The Sox picked up another run in the third when Cordes and Clark got into scoring position from two singles. Stephany would then step up to the plate and drive an RBI single to left field, scoring Cordes. The Sox continued to play solid defense holding the Tigers scoreless in their half. Both teams failed to score in the 4th. In the top of the 5th, the Sox picked up two more runs. Isaac Stella and Cordes scored from passed balls after getting on base with two singles. In the bottom of the 5th the Tigers would get on the board when X-man drove a shot into center field. Center fielder Cole Tonzi made a diving attempt at the ball knocking it down and holding X-man to a double. Jacob Iten then drove an RBI single to left to score X-man. The Sox tacked on another run in the top of the 6th from a Landon Stoddard triple and an RBI single for Stella. The Tigers would get a couple runners in scoring position in the bottom, but the Sox defense would once again hold their ground and only allow 1 run. Leading the offense for the Sox was Cordes going 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and 1 RBI, Stoddard (3B), Stella 2 singles and 1 RBI, Clark (2B) 1 single and 1 RBI, Stephany 1 single and 1 RBI. Tigers offense was led by Zander Staba with 3 singles, X-man (2B) and 1 single, Jacob Iten 1 single and 1 RBI, Evan Rose (2B) and 1 single, and Elijah Iten, Tommy Clifford, and Jack Clifford, each with a single. Pitching for the Sox was Alex Stephany going the full game. Pitching for the Tigers was Xavian Walker, going 4 2/3 with 9 strikeouts. Jacob Iten finished for the Tigers going 1 1/3. Yankees 14 Indians 2 The Yankees would jump out to an early lead scoring 7 runs in the top of the first inning. Jake Higgins, Wyatt Draper, Connor Elmore, Anthony Warner, Jayce Panepento, and Matt Covert would all get hits and score in the inning. Jude Sherman added a hit but was left on base, while Simon Green drew a walk and scored in the inning. The Yankees would add 3 more runs in the 3rd inning after Jake Higgins hit an inside the park home run. Wyatt Draper drew a walk and was scored on a Connor Elmore RBI single. Elmore would also score in the inning after a Jayce Panepento RBI single. Anthony Warner would add a single in the inning for the Yankees. In the 4th inning the Yankees Peyton Privatera drew a walk and scored in the inning. Cam Riggi singled and also scored to put the Yankees up 12-0. Connor Elmore added a single but was left on base. In the 5th the Indians would get on the score board after Noah Kaczanowski singled followed by a Jagger Smith single. Adam Woodworth then hit a line drive double to score both Kaczanowski and Smith to put the score 12-2 in favor of the Yankees. In the top of the sixth inning, Jake Higgins singled. Jude Sherman then stepped to the plate and drove the ball over the fence in left field for the first home run of his little league career. Final score Yankees 14 Indians 2. Pitching for the Yankees were Jake Higgins, Jude Sherman and Connor Elmore. Pitching for the Indians were Austin Bogue, Jagger Smith, and Martin McConnell. Tigers 11 Twins 2 The Twins and Tigers played their second game against each other in 4 days. The visiting Tigers jumped out to a 5 – 0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alex Spezzano reached after being hit by a pitch. 5 straight hits would lead to the five runs. Doubles by Xavien Walker and Zander Staba and singles by the Iten brothers, Jacob and Elijah and a single by Evan Rose lead to a quick start by the Tigers. The Twins were held scoreless in the bottom half of the first inning. Tigers 5, Twins 0. The Tigers would add another run in the second inning when Jacob Iten, who reached after being hit by a pitch, scored on a RBI single by Zander Staba. Another scoreless bottom half by the Twins would conclude the second inning. Tigers 6, Twins 0. A two-out rally in the third inning led to two more Tigers runs on singles by Alex Spezzano, X-Man Walker and Jacob Iten (2 RBI). After a scoreless bottom of the 3rd inning, the Tigers added another in the 4th when Avante Walker doubled and was hit in by Jack Clifford (RBI). This time the Twins would answer with two runs of their own on a 2 RBI single by Jack Egeling that scored Joey Reschke and DJ O’Geen. Tigers 9, Twins 0. The Tigers would tack on two more runs in the 5th inning to finish the scoring. Jacob Iten and Zander Staba singled and were drove in by Avante Walker with his second double of the day. Offensively for the Tigers, Jacob Iten was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Zander Staba was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored, Alex Spezzano was 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 runs, Avante Walker was 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, Xavien Walker 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Evan Rose, Elijah Iten and Jack Clifford added hits and Austyn Silvernail and Nate Pangrazio reached on walks. Alex Spezzano earned the complete game win on the mound while giving up 3 hits, striking out 10 and walking 2 batters. Offensively for the Twins, Joey Reschke had a single, double, scored a run and walked. DJ O’Geen scored a run and Grady Gilligan earned a walk. Holden Sullivan and DJ O’Geen handled the pitching duties for the Twins. Orioles 13 Yankees 4 The Orioles and Yankees met up on Thursday night for the first time this season. The Orioles started off quickly in the top of the first. Consecutive singles by Brayden Chase, Luke Lathan, and Jace Jedrewski loaded the bases. A double by Brady McClurg coupled with an error cleared the bases, giving the O’s the early 3-0 lead. Chase Cummings started on the mound for the Orioles, and got out of the 1st unscathed. Jake Higgins did the same for the Yankees in the second, as did Cummings again, leaving the score 3-0 Orioles after 2. Brayden Chase led off the 3rd with a double for the O’s, and scored on a Jace Jedrewski single. In the bottom of the 3rd, three consecutive singles by Cam Riggi, Jake Higgins, and Jude Sherman, and a laser double by Jayce Panepento resulted in 3 Yankee runs. The 4th inning was uneventful, with both teams failing to score, score 4-3 Orioles heading into the 5th inning. In the 5th and 6th innings, the Orioles bats got red hot. Multiple hits by Luke Lathan, Jace Jedrewski, and Brady McClurg as well as hits by Chase Cummings and TJ Crissy would result in 9 runs. Simon Greene would walk and score on a Cam Riggi double for the Yankees in the 6th, finalizing the score at 13-4 in favor of the Orioles. Jake Higgins, Wyatt Draper, and Jude Sherman pitched for the Yankees. Offensive contributors for the Yankees were Cam Riggi (single, double, run, RBI), Jake Higgins (2 hits, run), Jude Sherman (2 hits, run), Connor Elmore (single), Jayce Panepento (double, 3 RBI), and Simon Greene (double, run). Chase Cummings earned the win on the mound for the Orioles, going 5 innings and striking out 7. Brayden Chase struck out 2 in his sole inning of work. Jace Jedrewski (3 runs) and Brady McClurg each banged out 4 hits and drove in 2. Brayden Chase (4 runs, walk, RBI) and Luke Lathan (3 runs, double, RBI) each added 3 hits. TJ Crissy added 2 hits and scored a run, while Chase Cummings doubled (RBI, run), Jeremiah Sheehan walked and scored, and Aidan Weaver walked, had an RBI, and scored. Red Sox 9 Indians 6 The Red sox and Indians squared off for the second time this season on a gloomy Friday night. Isaac Stella would get his first little league start on the mound for the sox. The Indians jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a huge 1st inning, batting all the way through the order with hits from Noah Kaczanowski, Jagger Smith, Austin Bogue, Martin Macconnel, and Jack Currin. Adam Woodworth took the mound for the visiting Indians and would hold the sox scoreless for 3 innings. The Indians would go scoreless in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, the Sox would mount a huge 6 run inning, batting all the way around the order. Walks to Alex Stephany, Cole Tonzi, Colin Greene, and Kade Olivani. Landon Stoddard, Stella, Hayven Cordes, and Peter Clark all picked up key hits knocking in runs. In the 5th the Indians tacked in two more runs when Woodworth doubled to center, Macconnell then hit an RBI single and Cam Wilson picked up an RBI. In the bottom of the 5th, the Sox put up 3 more runs to make it 9-6 SOX. Stella and Stoddard would then team up at the mound to shut down the Indians and pick up the win. Hitting for the Red Sox were Cordes going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI'S, Stoddard with 2 hits and 1 RBI, Stella with 2 hits, Clark with 1 hit and 1 RBI, and Joey Vernaccinni with a hit. Hitting for the Indians were Noah Kaczanowski with 3 hits, Bogue with a double, single and 2 RBI'S, Woodworth (2B), MacConnell with 2 hits and 1 RBI, Wilson and Currin both with a hit and an RBI, and Jagger Smith with 2 hits. Pitching for the Sox was Isaac Stella going 5 2/3 and Stoddard getting the save for 1/3. Pitching for the Indians was Woodworth going 3 scoreless innings, striking out 6. the Indians finished the game with a combo of MacConnell, Bogue, and Smith. Orioles 10 Twins 3 In the first game of “Re-Opening” Day, the O’s and Twins battled for the second time in the week. The visiting O’s struck first in the top of the first inning. Luke Lathan singled with 2 outs, then came around to score on a Jace Jedrewksi triple. Lathan took the mound in the bottom of the inning, shutting down the Twins after a DJ O’Geen single. Neither team scored in the 2nd inning, but Chase Cummings got things going in the top of the 3rd for the O’s with a leadoff double. A HBP to Brayden Chase followed by a fielder’s choice by Jedrewski would score Cummings, giving the O’s a 2-0 lead. The Twins answered in the bottom of the inning however, with Joey Reschke scoring after a singling early in the inning. Both teams went scoreless in the 4th inning, leading to the 5th inning with the Orioles up 2-1. The Orioles got hot late, with a familiar name driving in runs. Cummings and Chase started the inning with back to back singles, followed by a walk to Luke Lathan. Again, Jace Jedrewski’s bat came up large, as he cleared the bases with a big double. The Twins were shut down in the bottom of the inning, Orioles up 5-1 heading in to the 6th. The Orioles added more insurance in the 6th inning. Jeremiah Sheehan started things off with a walk, followed by walks to Cummings and Chase. Asingle by Luke Lathan would plate 2, and another walk to Brady McClurg added another baserunner. Aidan Weaver delivered with a rocket double to drive in 2, followed by a single by Jay Lathan to put the Orioles up 10-1. In the bottom of the inning the Twins would get 2 runs back after a single by Holden Sullivan and walk to Jack Egeling and some passed balls, however the rally was thwarted with the Orioles winning 10-3. Luke Lathan (3 IP, 3 Ks) and Brayden Chase (3 IP, 4 Ks) split the pitching duties for the O’s with Lathan earning the win. At the plate, Jace Jed lead the way with a triple, double and 5 RBI. Chase Cummings (3 runs), Luke Lathan (3 runs, 2 RBI), and Aidan Weaver (2 RBI) all added 2 hits. Brayden Chase singled and scored twice, Brady McClurg drew 3 walks and scored, while Jay Lathan singled and had an RBI and Jeremiah Sheehan scored. Grady Gilligan, Joey Reschke, and Sierra Burk all pitched for the Twins. Joey Reschke had two hits and scored, while DJ O’Geen, Holden Sullivan (run), and Sierra Burk all singled. Jack Egeling walked twice and scored. Tigers 6 Indians 1 The Indians played host to the Tigers in game 2 of the Re-Opening Day 2019. The Tigers would score first when X-Man Walker crossed home plate after singling. Jacob Iten recorded the RBI on a single. The Indians looked poised to answer back after a lead off double by Noah Kaczanowski and single by Jagger Smith. However Xavien Walker would set the tone for the day by striking out the side and leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd. Tigers 1, Indians 0 The second inning went scoreless. In the third inning, the Tigers would score twice. Following singles by X-Man Walker and Zander Staba, Evan Rose drove a 2 RBI double to left center field. Walker would hold the Indians again scoreless in the bottom half. Tigers 3, Indians 0. After a scoreless 4th inning, the Tigers would make the score 4 – 0 in the 5th inning when Zander Staba drove in Walker again, after he singled to lead off the inning. The Tigers added two insurance runs in the top of the 6th when Tommy Clifford (walk) and Avante Walker (walk) scored. Jack Clifford added a single as well. In the bottom of the 6th inning it appeared the Indians may mount a comeback when the first two batter reached safely however a nifty strike out/throw out by Alex Spezzano and Zander Staba ended the threat. X-Man recorded the final out with a K to complete a fantastic performance on the mound. The day was dominated by Xavien, X-Man, Walker who pitched a complete game. X-Man struck out 14 Indian batters while allowing only 4 hits and 1 walk. Walker would also lead the Tigers offensively with 3 hits and 3 runs. Jacob Iten and Jack Clifford added hits. Zander Staba recorded two hits, a double and single, and scored a run in addition to reaching base when hit by a pitch. Evan Rose doubled. Elijah Iten, Tommy Clifford and Avante Walker all reached via walk. Noah Kaczanowski singled, doubled and scored a run for the Indians. Jagger Smith added two singles and Deacon Queal walked. Austin Bogue threw 5 effective innings for the Indians. Bogue struck out 6 batters. Red Sox 4 Yankees 3 (8 innings) The Red Sox and Yankees faced for the first time this year on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Taking the hill first was Landon Stoddard. In the top of the 1st the Yanks started off hot with a Cam Riggi single. Jake Higgins would then step up to the plate and smash a double into deep center field scoring Riggi. In the bottom of the 1st the Sox answered back with two runs of their own. Isaac Stella singled then the hard hitting Hayven Cordes would pick up an RBI single. Alex Stephany would then double, scoring Cordes. Stoddard would then settle in on the mound with his tough defense behind him to hold the Yanks for 4 scoreless innings. In the top of the 6th the yanks picked up 1 run to knot the game to 2-2. Jude Sherman got on with a single, then with smart base running advanced to score after a few passed balls. Higgins with the help of some strong defense held the Sox scoreless sending the game into extra innings. In the 7th both teams could not get much going. In the top of the 8th the Yanks struck again. Higgins blasted a shot into left getting a double. Then with some excellent base running would steal 3rd, then score on a passed ball. Yanks 3, Sox 2. In the bottom of the 8th the Sox would respond with a single from Stella and Cordes. Stella would score on a passed ball to tie the game again 3-3. Peter Clark would single and Stephany was intentionally walked to load the bases. Joey Vernaccinni would draw a walk to score Cordes on the game winning run. What a great game as every fan was on the edge of their seat! Hitting for the Sox were Cordes with 3 hits and 1 RBI, Stella 2 hits, Stephany 1 hit (2b) and 1 RBI, Clark and Colin Greene each with a hit a piece. Hitting for the Yankees were Jake Higgins with 2 doubles and 1 RBI, Cam Riggi, Jude Sherman, Jayce Penepento, Simon Greene each with a hit a piece. Pitching for the Sox was Landon Stoddard going 5 solid innings, and Stephany going 3 innings. Pitching for the Yankees was Higgins going 5 1/3 with 11 strikeouts, and Connor Elmore going 2 2/3.
