LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 19, 2019 As the legislative session enters its final two months, there are many more issues that will need to be addressed. Between new legislation being introduced and bills that have not yet come to the floor, there are sure to be many bills voted on in the remaining weeks. As I have said many times before, population loss is a major issue facing Western New York. As we negotiate and review bills, I am hopeful that my colleagues in both the Senate and Assembly will keep this overriding consideration in mind. Lowering taxes and making New York more affordable should be on the top of every member’s priority list as we enter the final weeks of the 2019 Legislative Session. May is also a time when I have an opportunity to honor outstanding individuals. We have both the Women of Distinction Ceremony and the Veterans’ Hall of Fame Celebration where a local woman and veteran is honored for their contributions to our community. I hear many wonderful accomplishments and learn of very courageous people who have touched many lives. This year, for the Women of Distinction Award, I was very happy to be able to honor, Senator Mary Lou Rath. Mary Lou was instrumental in the founding of the Women of Distinction Program and paved the way for many. I will be announcing the Veteran from my district in the coming weeks. I am grateful to be able to honor these two outstanding individuals. Representing the views of my constituents is of the utmost importance to me. I always keep in mind how specific bills and initiatives would affect our communities and Western New York as a whole. With that in mind, I want to encourage everyone to take my 2019 Legislative Questionnaire, which can be found on my website, https:// www.nysenate.gov/senators/ michael-h-ranzenhofer. The 13 questions have been compiled from the topics that I have been hearing about the most from my constituents. Through the questionnaire, I am able to get a better understanding of the views of residents on important topics such as drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants, the legalization of marijuana and campaign finance reform. Thousands of residents have already responded to my questionnaire and I hope to hear from you too.
