LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 26, 2019 Red Sox were poised for a rally of their own when Colin Greene led off with a single and Kade Olivani walked giving the Red Sox 1st and 2nd with no outs. However, Alex Spezzano would work out of the jam without surrendering a run on a ground out, fly out and strike out. Tigers 3, Red Sox 0 The 4th inning went scoreless and uneventful but for a JoJo Vernacinni single. The Tigers would add another run in the 5th inning. Alex Spezzano singled with one out and scored on a RBI ground out by Jacob Iten. Tigers 4, Red Sox 0 This would be the final score. Alex Spezzano earned the complete game shut out allowing 4 hits, walking one and striking out 10 Red Sox batters. Spezzano led the Tigers offensively going 3 for 3 with a double, triple and 2 runs scored. Xavien Walker was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Donovan Gaillard walked and scored a run. Landon Stoddard pitched 5 strong innings for the Red Sox. He allowed only 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2. Isaac Stella, Landon Stoddard, Peter Clark and JoJo Vernacinni all recorded singles for the Red Sox. Indians 6 Twins 4 The Indians and Twins met for the second time this season as Austin Bogue started on the mound for the Indians with Joey Reshke on the hill for the Twins. The game was scoreless for the first two innings until the Indians would strike in the top of the third inning. Noah Kaczanowski led off the inning with a double and would advance to third after a single by Adam Woodworth. Noah would then score the game’s first run on a passed ball and CamWilson would knock in Woodworth to make the score 2-0. In the top half of 4th inning, the Indians would add to their lead. Jude Christ was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by Noah Kaczanowski. Adam Woodworth then singled to score Jude and Noah would eventually score on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 4-0. However, in the bottom half of the 4th the Twins would strike back. Holden Sullivan and Jack Egeling would both reach base via walks and Sullivan would score on a RBI groundout by Sierra Burke. Then Benito Bautista would single in Egeling to make the score 4-2. In the 5th inning the Indians would increase their lead to 5-2 after Cam Wilson singled and scored on a double by Martin Macconnell. The Twins would add a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th after Joey Reschke walked and scored on a wild pitch making the score 5-3. In the top half of the 6th inning, the Indians would increase their lead to 6-3 after Jagger Smith singled and came around to score on a single by Austin Bogue. The Twins would make things interesting in the bottom of the 6th after Liam Grayson led off with a walk and came around to score on a single by Sierra Burke. The Twins would put the tying runs on base but Noah Kaczanowski struck out the final two batters to end the rally. For the Indians, Austin Bogue got the win going 4 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out 7 while Noah Kaczanowski went 1 1/3 innings, striking out 4 and earning the save. Joey Reshke and Liam Grayson handled pitching duties for the Twins. Offensively, the Indians we led by Austin Bogue with 3 hits, while Adam Woodworth, Noah Kaczanowski and CamWilson also added two hits. Jagger Smith, Kaleb Lang, Martin Macconnell and Zach Samis all chipped in one hit. For the Twins, Sierra Burke had a hit and 2 RBI’s, while Holden Sullivan and Benito Bautista also added hits. Tigers 8 Yankees 1 This game would be the first of a split double header for the Yanks and Tigers on a sunny Saturday at the Little League Field. The Tigers would score first in the top of the 1st inning when Alex Spezzano walked and scored on Jacob Iten’s RBI single. The Yankees would threaten in the bottom of the first when Jake Higgins reached 3rd base after a leadoff single. However, he would be stranded there. Tigers 1, Yankees 0 The Tigers would score again in the 2nd inning to the make the score Tigers 2, Yankees 0 when Evan Rose scored after a leadoff walk. The Yankees would threaten in their half of the inning after consecutive walks by Matt Covert and Cam Riggi however Xavien Walker would strike out the next three to end the threat. Tigers 2, Yankees 0 The Tigers stretched the score to 3-0 in the 3rd on 3 straight singles by X-Man Walker, Jacob Iten and Elijah Iten. Walker scored on Elijah’s RBI single. After a scoreless bottom of the 3rd by the Yankees, the Tigers added two more runs. Nate Pangrazio drew a leadoff walk and scored on X-Man’s triple. Xavien, X-Man, Walker would then score to the make total 5-0 Tigers on Jacob Iten’s RBI single. Tigers 5, Yankees 0 The Tigers got 3 more insurance runs in the 5th, all with 2 outs. Alex Spezzano singled and scored on a double by X-Man. Walker would come home to score after Jacob Iten walked and Elijah Iten singled. Jacob Iten scored the final Tigers’run on a RBI double by Zander Staba. The Yankees avoided the shut out by scoring one in the 6th. Anthony Warner led off with a single and scored on Matt Covert’s RBI ground out. Final Score – Tigers 8, Yankees 1 X-Man Walker recorded the win on the mound for the Tigers. He pitched 5 complete innings while only allowing 1 hit and striking out 11 Yankee hitters. Elijah Iten pitched the 6th inning. X-Man Walker also led the Tigers at the plate. Walker was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and 3 runs scored. Jacob Iten went 3 for 3 plus a walk. He also scored a run. Alex Spezzano scored twice to go with a walk and single. Elijah Iten recorded 3 singles. Zander Staba singled and doubled. Evan Rose singled, walked and scored a run. Nate Pangrazio walked and scored and Jack Clifford and Donovan Gaillard walked. Anthony Warner singled and scored for the Yankees. Jake Higgins singled. Matt Covert, Cam Riggi and Jude Sherman all drew walks. Connor Elmore and Cam Riggi handled the pitching duties for the Yankees. Both Elmore and Riggi struck out 5 Tigers batters each. Orioles 3 Red Sox 2 The Orioles and Red Sox faced off for the 3rd time this season on Saturday, with both teams playing for the third consecutive day. This game was a classic pitcher’s duel, featuring excellent fielding by both squads for most of the game. Luke Lathan and Isaac Stella led both squads on the mound with gutty performances. In the top of the first, Brayden Chase reached base after a hit by pitch. A single by Luke Lathan scored Chase, giving the Orioles and early 1-0 lead in a game where runs were hard to come by. Lathan shut down the Red Sox in the bottom of the first, preserving the early O’s lead 1-0 after one inning. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings resulted in no runs by either team. Defensive standouts over this portion of the game included the Red Sox Alex Stephany, Cole Tonzi, and Hayven Cordes as well as the Orioles’ Jack Lathan, Brady McClurg, Brayden Chase, and Jeremiah Sheehan. In the top of the 5th inning, TJ Crissy singled and Jeremiah Sheehan drew a walk. A fielder’s choice by Chase Cummings would set the table for Brayden Chase, who doubled in Sheehan and Cummings to extend the lead to 3-0. Luke Lathan set down the Red Sox in the bottom of the inning, leading to another exciting finish in the 6th inning. The Orioles were unable to score in the top of the 6th. The Red Sox did not go down easy, and fought back valiantly. After a quick out, a combination of singles and reach on errors by hitters Peter Clark, Alex Stephany, Joey Vernacinni, Cole Tonzi, and Colin Greene cut the lead to 3-2. With the bases loaded Kade Olivani then hit the ball between the Orioles 3rd baseman, SS, and pitcher, resulting in a collision. A heads-up Brayden Chase quickly grabbed the ball and fired home, cutting the run off and keeping the score at 3-2. With the bases still loaded, a passed ball resulted in an out on the base paths, ending a very well- played and exciting game, with the Orioles hanging on for the 3-2 victory. Isaac Stella went the distance for the Red Sox, keeping the Orioles bats off balance for most of the game, striking out 2 and walking 2. Peter Clark and Alex Stephany each had two hits for the Red Sox, both scoring. Hayven Cordes, Joey Vernacinni (2 hits), Cole Tonzi, Colin Greene, and Kade Olivani all reached base for the Red Sox as well. Luke Lathan earned the complete game win on the mound for the Orioles. The southpaw struck out 8, only walking one. Brayden Chase was the offensive star for the Orioles, doubling, driving in 2 and scoring a run. Luke Lathan, Brady McClurg, and Aidan Weaver all singled. TJ Crissy had 2 critical hits for the Orioles. Chase Cummings and Jeremiah Sheehan also scored for the Orioles. Tigers 11 Yankees 2 The Yankees jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game two of the double header. Jake Higgins led the game off with a single and scored on Connor Elmore’s RBI single. However, the Tigers would quickly answer back with five of their own. Alex Spezzano singled to start the bottom half of the 1st. He would score on X-Man Walker’s single setting up Jacob Iten with a runner on 1st. Iten would proceed to make the score Tigers 3, Yankees 0 on a home run to center field. Zander Staba and Evan Rose would follow with singles of their own and ultimately score. Tigers 5, Yankees 1. After a scoreless top of the 2nd inning, the Tigers would stretch the lead to 7 to 1. Alex Spezzano singled with one out and moved to second on a walk by X-Man. Both would score on a hit by Elijah Iten. Tigers 7, Yankees 1. A scoreless 3rd inning by both teams would include a double by Jake Higgins and single by Jude Sherman for the Yanks and single by Evan Rose for the Tigers. Tigers 7, Yankees 1 The Yankees would close the gap to 7 to 2 in the top of the 4th. This included a double by Wyatt Draper and RBI single by Matt Covert. Also in the inning, 9 year old Peyton Privitera would earn his first official Little League hit on a perfectly laid bunt down the first baseline. In the bottom of the 4th the Tigers would stretch the lead out to 11 to 2. X-Man Walker walked followed by a double by Jacob Iten and singles by Zander Staba, Evan Rose, Avante Walker and Jack Clifford. This would conclude the scoring making the final score, Tigers 11, Yankees 2 Jacob Iten earned the complete game win for the Tigers. Iten scattered 7 hits over 6 innings and struck out 3. Jacob Iten also had a monster game at the plate with a double, home run and 2 runs scored. Evan Rose was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Alex Spezzano scored twice to go with 2 singles. Xavien Walker scored 3 runs to go with 2 singles and 2 walks. Zander Staba scored twice and singled twice. Elijah Iten, Avante Walker and Jack Clifford all recorded singles. Offensively for the Yankees, Jake Higgins, Anthony Warner, Jude Sherman, Connor Elmore, Cam Riggi and Peyton Privitera (1st Little League Hit) all singled. Wyatt Draper doubled. Jake Higgins and Wyatt Draper both scored for the Yankees. Jude Sherman and Wyatt Draper pitched for the Yankees. LeRoy Little League Results Cont.
