They help sponsor the local news section of the Le Roy Pennysaver. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT! by Stephen Barbeau Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6190 ext. 231 While we individually con- tinue to deal w/ our own water issues Mother Nature is send- ing our way, water has been the central issue the Town Board has been dealing with- that in the form of water districts. At our last meeting, the board for- mally established Water District #11 to include nine parcels on LeRoy/East Bethany Rd. head- ing northeast from Cole Rd. USDA-Rural Development has awarded a grant of $34,000 for the project and a loan of $89,000. The process of NYS approvals, final engineering, and awarding bids has begun. Simultaneously, we will be dis- solving a water district (#9) that was formed in 2007, but never constructed, on Vallance Rd., from the county line west to (not quite) the Rt. 490 ramp, in order to assist with Genesee Coun- ty’s Phase Two water project. Ultimately, there will be a new county-constructed transmis- sion main along much of Val- lance Rd. that residents, along the main, will have the option of connecting to. Further, we have been petitioned by a number of residents along Parmelee, Oatka Trail, Conlon, and Circular Hill Rds. to explore a new water dis- trict. The board will authorize preliminary engineering studies and we will be hosting an infor- mation meeting for potentially affected residents thereafter in the future. My traditional water district advisory- “The Town Board neither encourages nor discourages the establishment of water districts. We only serve as the facilitator to present data/ information to residents for de- cision-making.” This Fall, I will have the good fortune to travel to Italy with my wife. As some of you know, past trips, escorted by Jim Frascati (Capish!), received some publicity when a number of LeRoyans were able to make a side trip to Asiago, the town where their family roots orig- inate. Upon further research, I have learned many families from LeRoy (mostly the Lime Rock area) can make this claim. As such, with the idea from Jim, I received approval from the Town Board to pursue a “Friendship City” relationship with Asiago, Italy. As we move closer to the date, I will keep you informed (I plan to meet with their government officials). At present, I am under the im- pression that the Rigoni, Stella, Stefani, Kunego, Mancuso, Car- li, Pangrazio, and Costa families originate from this town/area (how many LeRoyans from that one town/area does that make?). If I am in error, or if anyone knows of other LeRoy families who originate from Asiago (re- member, some changed their names when they came to the U.S. in order to better secure employment or had their spell- ings inadvertently changed by immigration officials), please let me know at supervisor@ leroyny.org . I want to be as cor- rect and as inclusive as possible. Finally, this weekend, please remember with a prayer a veteran who has passed away, and please thank a veteran who you see/meet. Hope to see you all at our annual Memorial Day ceremonies and Around Town. Around Town Poppy Girl 2019 Celeste is the daughter of Sara and John Vescovi and granddaughter of Barb and John Vescovi and Christa Coulon.
