LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 26, 2019 LeRoy Little League Results Tigers 12 Yankees 1 The Tigers and Yankees squared off in what was to be their 1st of 4 games against each other in 7 days. The Yankees would threaten early, with 2 outs, in the 1st. Jude Sherman doubled and moved to second base on a Wyatt Draper walk. However, Alex Spezzano would end the threat with a K to complete striking out the side. The Tigers would pounce in bottom 1st scoring 2 runs. Alex Spezzano singled then scored on Xavien Walker’s Inside the Park Home Run making the score Tigers 2, Yankees 0 The second inning went scoreless for both teams but for a walk by Peyton Privatera of the Yankees. The Yankees would get on the board in the top of the 3rd on singles by Cam Riggi and Jake Higgins and a RBI double by Wyatt Draper. However, the Tigers quickly answered back with five runs of their own. Three straight singles by Alex Spezzano, X-Man Walker and Jacob Iten started the rally. Elijah Iten followed with a double and Zander Staba cleared the bases with a triple. Tigers 7, Yankees 1 After a scoreless top of the 4th, the Tigers would strike again. Leading off the inning for the 3rd time in 4 innings, Alex Spezzano doubled for what would be the first of three straight doubles for the Tigers. X-Man doubled Spezzano in and was hit in by Jacob Iten on a double. Then, with two outs and two on (Evan Rose and Avante Walker), Jack Clifford hit the ball hard scoring both. Tigers 12, Yankees 1. This would conclude the scoring for the game however Xavien Walker and Jake Higgins would add singles in the 5th and 6th respectively. The pitching duties for the Tigers were handled by committee. Alex Spezzano threw 2 innings, striking out 6 and allowing a hit. Jacob Iten gave up 1 run in 3 innings while striking out 3 and Evan Rose recorded the lasts three outs, striking out 2. Offensively for the Tigers, Alex Spezzano was 3-4 with 3 runs and a double. X-Man was 4-4 with a HR, double and 2 singles to go with 3 runs scored. Jacob Iten recorded 3 hits including 2 doubles. J. Iten also scored twice. Elijah Iten singled, doubled and scored. Zander Staba singled, tripled and scored. Evan Rose had two hits and scored. Avante Walker and Jack Clifford both singled. Jake Higgins led the Yankees with 2 hits and a run scored. Jude Sherman and Wyatt Draper doubled. Draper also walked twice. Cam Riggi singled and Peyton Privitera reached on a walk. Pitching for the Yankees was Wyatt Draper, Jude Sherman and Connor Elmore. Indians 13 Red Sox 0 The Indians and Red Sox met for the third time this season after having split the first two meetings. Adam Woodworth started on the hill for the Indians with Alex Stephany on the mound for the Red Sox. The Indians would strike first in the top half of the first inning scoring 5 runs. Noah Kaczanowski led off the game with a walk and Jagger Smith reached on an error. Adam Woodworth would then be hit by a pitch which would load the bases. Austin Bogue would then single in the first run of the game and Cam Wilson would follow with another single to plate a second run. Jack Currin would then knock home the third run on a ground out to first. The big blow of the inning then would come off the bat of Zach Samis who would drive a long double to left center plating 2 more runs to end the scoring for the inning. In the top half of the second inning, the Indians would add to their lead. Noah started the inning off with a single and Jagger Smith would also reach base. Noah would later come around to score on an error and Jagger would score on a RBI groundout by Cam Wilson making the score 7-0. The score remained unchanged until the top of the 6th inning when the Indians would add to their lead. Noah again started things off with a triple to left field. Jagger Smith would then single and Adam Woodworth would walk to load the bases. That would bring Austin Bogue to the plate who would uncork a grand slam home run over the left field fence extending the lead to 11-0. The Indians would tack on two more runs in the inning to end the scoring at 13-0. The Red Sox were unable to get anything going offensively with only one hit on the night coming off the bat of Cole Tonzi. Adam Woodworth would go the distance for the Indians, walking one batter and striking out seven. For the Red Sox, Alex Stephany, Landon Stoddard and Joey Vernaccini handled the pitching duties. Offensively, the Indians were led by Noah Kaczanowski with 2 hits and 3 runs scored. Austin Bogue also had 2 hits and 5 RBI’s. Jagger Smith added a hit and scored 3 runs while Jack Currin also added 2 hits and 3 RBI’s. Also hitting for the Indians were Adam Woodworth, Cam Wilson (2 RBI’s) and Zach Samis (2B, 2 RBI’s). Orioles 12 Twins 11 The O’s and Twins faced off for the 3rd time this season, and this game had a little bit of everything. Luke Lathan and Holden Sullivan started on the mound for the squads. Grady Gilligan led of the game with a single and scored on a DJ O’Geen groundout to give the Twins an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, a Brady McClurg single plated Brayden Chase and Luke Lathan to give the O’s a 2-1 lead. Neither team scored in the 2nd inning. In the top of the 3rd, the Twins put 4 hits together in a row by Joey Reschke, DJ O’Geen, Holden Sullivan, and Jack Egeling to score 2 runs and retake the lead 3-2. However, the O’s battled back, taking advantage of a Chase Cummings leadoff single, a couple of errors and another RBI single by Brady McClurg. Orioles 4-3 after 3 innings. After holding the Twins scoreless in the 4th, the Orioles disciplined bats took advantage of multiple walks. Three walks, a hit by pitcher, and RBI singles by Brayden Chase and Aidan Weaver would eventually score 5 runs to extend what fans believed to be a comfortable lead to 9-3 after 4 innings. In the top of the 5th, everyone was quickly reminded that no lead is comfortable in Little League. After Joey Reschke reached on an error, consecutive singles by DJ O’Geen, Holden Sullivan and a double by Jack Egeling cut the lead to 9-6. Liam Grayson would also reach base, and a single by Sierra Burk plated 2, leaving the score at 9-8 after the top half of the 5th. Some excellent plays in the field by the Twins would keep the score at 9-8 heading into the final stanza. And what a final stanza it was. Joey Reschke got things started again with a double. Once again, DJ O’Geen reached base, and both would score on a Jack Egeling double. Egeling himself would score on multiple throwing errors, giving the Twins the 11-9 lead heading into the bottom half. Luke Lathan singled to start of the bottom of the 6th for the O’s. Jace Jedrewski was hit by a pitch for the third time, bringing the winning run to the plate. A double by Brady McClurg scored Lathan bringing the score to 11- 10. A single by Aidan Weaver scored Jedrewski, tying the game up, however the Twins were able to catch McClurg in a rundown. Weaver advanced to 3rd on the rundown as the winning run on third base. Jay Lathan delivered with an infield single, leading the Orioles to the walkoff comeback 12-11 win. Holden Sullivan and Grady Gilligan shared pitching duties for the Twins. Hitting for the Twins were DJ O’Geen (2 hits, 3 runs), Grady Gilligan (1 hit, 1 run), Joey Reschke (2 hits, 3 runs), Holden Sullivan (1 hit, 1 run), Jack Egeling (3 hits, 2 runs), and Liam Grayson and Sierra Burk. Ryder Stiles drew a walk for the Twins. The Orioles pitching committee included Luke Lathan, Chase Cummings, Brayden Chase, and Jace Jedrewski (earned the W). Brady McClurg led the hit parade with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Aidan Weaver added 2 hits (run, RBI), while Chase Cummings (2 runs), Brayden Chase (2 runs), Luke Lathan (3 runs), Jay Lathan (1 run), and TJ Crissy all added hits. Jace Jedrewski reached base 3 times and scored twice. Cam Maxwell walked and scored as well. Orioles 6 Yankees 4 The Orioles and Yankees kicked off a busy weekend at the LL Field with the 4 PM game Friday night. Jake Higgins took the mound for the Yankees and quickly struck out the side in the first. Higgins then singled and stole a base in the bottom of the 1st, scoring on a Jude Sherman hit to give the Yankees the early lead 1-0. The O’s would go down 1-2-3 again in the 2nd. The Yankees would strike again with Connor Elmore singling, stealing, and scoring on a Simon Greene hit in the bottom of the inning, extending the Yankee lead to 2-0. The Orioles bats woke up in the 3rd inning. After a walk to Jay Lathan, Mia Strollo moved Lathan to scoring position with a fielder’s choice. Chase Cummings, Brayden Chase, and Luke Lathan all followed suit with singles. All four would eventually score, giving the Orioles a 4-2 lead. The lead did not last long. Jake Higgins singled again and Wyatt Draper was hit by a pitch. That set the table for Anthony “Root Beer” Warner, who cleaned up with a 2-run double to tie the game 4-4 heading into the 4th. The Orioles’ TJ Crissy singled, followed by a walk to Chase Cummings in the top of the 4th. Brayden Chase drove in Crissy with a fielder’s choice, also moving Cummings to 3rd. Jace Jedrewski would single to drive in Cummings, giving the Orioles a 6-4 lead. Both teams’ pitchers pitched effectively for the rest of the game, not allowing any runs, leaving the score at 6-4 in favor of the Orioles. Jake Higgins, Connor Elmore, and Anthony Warner all pitched well for the Yankees striking out a combined 11 batters. Higgins had 3 hits and 2 runs, while Jude Sherman, Anthony Warner (double), Connor Elmore, Simon Greene, and Matthew Covert all had hits. Elmore and Wyatt Draper also scored for the Yankees. Jace Jedrewski made his first start on the mound for the Orioles and sizzled, going 5.1 innings and striking out 4 to earn the win. Brayden Chase struck out the final two batters for the save. Hitting singles for the Orioles were Chase Cummings (2 runs), Brayden Chase (1 run), Luke Lathan (1 run), Jedrewski, and TJ Crissy (1 run). Jay Lathan walked and scored. Tigers 4 Red Sox 2 The Tigers and Red Sox squared off on Friday night with 1st place on the line. Both teams entered with only one loss, the Tigers loss having been to the Red Sox in their first game. This game was billed as a pitching duel between Alex Spezzano and Landon Stoddard and it would not disappoint. Alex Spezzano got the game started with a leadoff triple. He would score the game’s first run when he stole home to the make the score Tigers 1, Red Sox 0. In the bottom of the 1st, Spezzano would work around a 2 out single to keep the Sox scoreless. Tigers 1, Red Sox 0. The 2nd inning saw both pitchers throw clean innings, 3 up 3 down for both. The Tigers would strike again in the 3rd inning. Donovan Gaillard drew a leadoff walked and moved to second base on a passed ball. Alex Spezzano would then get his second hit of the day with a RBI double to score Gaillard. Spezzano would come around to score on a RBI ground out by Jacob Iten giving the Tigers 3 runs heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning. In their half of the inning, it appeared the Cont. pg 11
