LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JUNE 9, 2019 LeRoy Little League Results Orioles 4 Twins 2 The O’s and Twins squared off in the first game post Memorial Day weekend break. Holden Sullivan took the bump for the Twins and started out strong in the first, striking out 3. Luke Lathan started on the mound for the O’s and was up to the task in the first as well, striking out 2 and stranding the bases loaded. Both pitchers would retire the opposition 1-2-3 in the second, leaving the score at 0-0 heading into the 3rd. In the top of the 3rd, the Twins would strike. Grady Gilligan singled followed by a Holden Sullivan double. With 2 outs, Jack Egeling had a huge hit to plate both, giving the Twins the 2-0 lead. Sullivan would remain hot on the mound, holding the O’s scoreless in the bottom half. O’s pitchers struck out the side in the bottom of the 4th, 2-0 Twins after 4 innings. In the top of the 5th, Jay Lathan and Jeremiah Sheehan drew walks for the Orioles. After a couple more strikeouts by Sullivan, Brayden Chase would deliver with a RBI single, cutting the score to 2-1 Twins. In the bottom of the inning, the Twins threatened again loading the bases, however O’s reliever Chase Cummings made a great play to stop the rally. The top of the 6th inning featured some fireworks for the O’s. Jace Jedrewski and Brady McClurg drew walks. Aidan Weaver singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, Jeremiah Sheehan singled to score Jedrewski on a very close play at the plate. TJ Crissy hit a hard ball to the left side, however a dart to the plate cut off the run, leaving the score at 2-2 with 2 outs. Chase Cummings delivered, hitting a double to left field to score Weaver and Sheehan, giving the O’s their first lead of the game. Cummings would retire the Twins batters in order in the bottom of the 6th to secure the win. Holden Sullivan was masterful for the Twins, striking out 11 in 4.2 innings of work. Liam Grayson finished up the game for the Twins, striking out 2. Sullivan also dominated at the plate with 3 hits including a double, scoring a run. Grady Gilligan also scored and had 2 hits. Joey Reschke, DJ O’Geen, and Jack Egeling also added hits with Egeling contributing with 2 RBI. Luke Lathan struck out 10 in 3.2 innings for the Orioles. Chase Cummings earned the win in reliever duty, striking out 5 of his own. Brayden Chase led the Orioles offensively with 2 hits and an RBI. Cummings delivered a double and 2 RBI. Aidan Weaver singled and scored, while Jeremiah Sheehan also singled and drove in a run. Jace Jedrewski and Jay Lathan drew critical walks and scored for the O’s, Indians 6 Tigers 4 The Indians and Tigers met for the third time this season with the Tigers taking the first two matchups. However, both teams came into this game riding winning streaks with the Tigers having won their previous 7 games and the Indians their past 4. Adam Woodworth got the start for the Indians with Xavien “X-Man” Walker on the mound for the Tigers. The Indians would get off to a great start in the bottom of the first inning when Noah Kaczanowski led off with a single and Jagger Smith and Adam Woodworth both walked to load the bases with nobody out. However, X-Man would strike out the next 3 batters and put an end to the early threat. The first 3 innings of the game were all about pitching as neither team would put any runs on the scoreboard. However, in the 4th inning the bats would wake up. The Tigers would score the first run of the game in the top of the inning after Zander Staba doubled, stole third and came around to score on a RBI groundout by Avante Walker. In the bottom half of the 4th, the Indians would answer back. Deacon Queal would single and Noah Kaczanowski would double. Jagger Smith was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Adam Woodworth who would then hit a clutch double scoring Deacon and Noah. Cam Wilson would then follow with a single scoring Smith and Woodworth to make the score 4-1. The lead would be short-lived as the Tigers would roar back in the top half of the 5th. Alex Spezzano led off with a single and would score on a RBI groundout by X-Man. Jacob Iten would then walk and come around to score on a RBI groundout by Elijah Iten. Zander Staba would then step to the plate and blast a home run over the right field fence, evening the game 4-4. In the bottom of the 5th, the Indians would retake the lead. Jude Christ led off with a walk and would score on a RBI single by Kaczanowski. Jagger Smith would then walk and Adam Woodworth would be intentionally walked to load the bases. Kaczanowski would then score on a passed ball to increase the lead to 6-4. In the 6th Inning, the Tigers would get a base runner on when Nate Pangrazio walked but they were unable to generate another rally. For the Indians, Adam Woodworth pitches 2 scoreless innings and Austin Bogue went the rest of the way to get the win, striking out 4. For the Tigers, X Man pitched 2 scoreless innings with 6 K’s. Alex Spezzano pitched 2 innings with 4 K’s and Elijah Iten pitched one inning. Offensively, the Indians were led by Noah Kaczanowski with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Adam Woodworth reached base 4 times (2B, 3 BB) and had 2 RBI’s. Jagger Smith reached base 3 times (2 BB, HBP) while Cam Wilson (2 RBI) and Deacon Queal added a hit each. For the Tigers, Alex Spezzano had 2 hits, Zander Staba 2 hits (2B, HR) and Evan Rose reached base twice (2 BB). Yankees 21 Red Sox 11 In the first inning Yankees leadoff hitter Cam Riggi laid down a perfect bunt and reached base safely. Wyatt Draper hit an RBI single to score Riggi, Matt Covert would draw a walk and score later in the inning to put the Yankees up 3-0 after the first half of the inning. The Red Sox would answer back getting 2 runs after Landed Stoddard and Hayven Cordes both singled and scored in the inning. Alex Stephany added a hit for the Sox but was left on base. In the second the Yankees would get hits from Connor Elmore and Cam Riggi. Wyatt Draper Doubled and Jake Higgins drew a walk. All 4 would score in the inning. Matt Covert added a hit but would be left on base. The Red Sox answered back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Andreas Condidorio drew a walk, Isaac Stella, Landon Stoddard, and Hayven Cordes all singled and all 4 of them would score in the inning. Peter Clark and Alex Stephany would also get hits but were left on base. After 2 innings Yankees 7 Red Sox 6. The Yankees added a run in the third after Connor Elmore reached base and scored in the inning after an Evan McCallister RBI single. The Red Sox would take the lead in the bottom half of the inning getting hits from Issac Stella, Hayven Cordes, Peter Clark, and Alex Stephany. Landon Stoddard drew a walk and he, Stella and Cordes would score in the inning to make the score Yankees 8 Red Sox 9. The Yankees would tie the game in the 4th after Jude Sherman reached base safely and scored in the inning. The Red Sox would be held scoreless in the 4th. In the 5th the Yankees would get 2 more runs after Connor Elmore singled and Peyton Privitera drew a walk. Both scored in the inning to put the game Yankees 11 Red Sox 9. In the bottom of the 6th the Red Sox would fight back and tie the game after Cole Tonzi singled and Joey Vernaccini drew a walk and scored in the inning. In the top of the 7th the Yankees would draw several walks, Connor Elmore added a double and Matt Covert singled. The Yankees would score 10 runs to put the game out of reach. Twins 5 Tigers 2 The Tigers hosted the Twins in Little League action on Friday May 31. The first place Tigers had put up 22 runs total and given up only 2 against the Twins in the two previous meetings. The pitching and catching tandem of Grady Gilligan ( 6 innings, 12 strike outs, and 0 walks ) and Holden Sullivan were eager to be competitive. With the help of the Twins defense, Gilligan would get the 5 to 2 victory. DJ O’Geen went 4 for 4 (2 doubles, single, and a triple ) and would lead the offensive charge for the Twins. Also hitting for the Twins were Gilligan, Joey Reschke, Liam Grayson, Sierra Burk, and Benito Bautista, each with one hit. Pitching for the Tigers, Jacob Iten would strike out 4 in 5 and 2/3 innings. Alex Spezzano and Xavien Walker would both have hits for the Tigers. Zander Staba showed off his base running speed Cont. pg 11
