Menus in the Recreation Booklet and at www.stmarksleroy.org Senator Ranzenhofer’s Monthly Column Questionnaire Results are in; the District has spoken With the 2019 Legislative Session wrapping up, there is still a lot left to discuss in Albany. I asked about many of these importance topics in my 2019 Legislative Questionnaire. The 13-question survey touched on current topics, such as legalizing pot, driver’s license for illegals and campaign finance reform. I want to thank the thousands of residents who took the time to share their opinions. As your State Senator, your voice is extremely important to me. By sharing your views, you are helping me to better represent you, our community and Western New York as a whole. The results have been calculated and I would like to share some of them with you. One of the most overwhelming responses was the answer to the question regarding New York’s tax climate. Over 85 percent of respondents believe that New York taxes too much. Cutting taxes has been, and continues to be, one of my top priorities. As I have said countless times before, New York State taxes and spends too much and this continues to drive people away. Until these issues are addressed, we will continue to see people leaving the state for a better tax climate, better jobs and better economic development. Similarly, an overwhelming majority of those who took the survey selected “making New York more affordable for families” as most important. While I was pleased that the tax cap was made permanent earlier this year and believe this is a step in the right direction, there is still a lot more to be done. Upstate continues to feel these affects disproportionately to downstate. Not surprisingly, more than half of those who took the survey felt that the 2019-20 New York State budget, passed earlier this year, did not help Western New York. I agree with this, which is why I voted NO on the budget that disproportionately funded downstate and left Upstate behind. Over 72 percent of respondents believe that our economy in New York State is not headed in the right direction. These answers show where our priorities need to be as the Legislative Session wraps up. I will continue to lead the fight to provide more relief for taxpayers and make New York State more business friendly. As we look forward to summer, save the date for my 2019 Family Health Fair – Saturday, August 3rd from 9 am to noon at the Amherst Senior Center!
