Our guests for the afternoon were Jeff Holliday from Save-A-Lot, Jessica Strollo representing Le Roy Little League and Kyle Hobart, guest speaker. There were no birthdays to sing about, but the fines were fast and furious as President Jim brought everyone up to date before his term expires. Missed meetings by Ben Deragon, Mike Tucci and Martha Bailey were covered by makeups, but Jerry McCullough even with his 3 makeups was fortunate to stop at the bank before the meeting. Martha Bailey paid for the happy news that she passed her Notary Public test, Betsy Halvorsen was assessed a green card but the fine was paid by President Jim. Mike Tucci paid for a golf and Bart Dambra paid for not going fishing, Marcia McKenzie was fined for a family cruise and numerous Rotarians were fined for not wearing their name tags. From 1900 - 1920, there were 14.5 million immigrants to the United States. The last major act in 1996 redefined criminal enforcement and was followed by the 2002 Family Sponsor Immigration Act and the Department of Homeland Security was set up. The Immigration and Naturalization Agency (INS) was absorbed along with other agencies. Jim Bonaquisti was also presented to the club by his sponsor Jim Ellison as its newest member. Jim was quickly inducted by President Mary and warmly accepted by the club. Next up was the weekly announcements, REAL (Rotarian Excited About Literacy) will be held this weekend (6/29) at the LeRoy Farmer’s Market. Lynn Belluscio advised the club that the Little League field will be a buzz that same morning as LeRoy takes on visiting Batavia. Jason Karcher reminded the club about the upcoming Oatka Festival hot dog/hamburger Stand, and the signup sheet is available. Jim Ellison announced that there will be an opportunity for club fellowship on Tuesday 7/2 at the Oatka Hose Club, all are welcome. President Mary asked the club for ideas in regards to service projects for the club’s up coming year. One idea that she presented was to paint the Rotary signs on the east and west borders of the village. Several members were recognized for their missed meetings, and all had makeups and/or green cards. President Mary in her first fining session sanctioned Ben Deregan for his “duties” at the installation dinner and arriving just in time. Nan Chuilli was fined for her lost appointment book “no big deal” she found it in her purse. Andy Rich was fined for “going active” in the LeRoy Fire Department, his father would be proud. Angelia Bodie, Children’s Library Assistant at Woodward Memorial Library gave an excellent overview of the library’s children’s programs. Last year they had 244 participants in several summer programs, and that is excepted to grow. Some of the popular programs were: Touch the Truck, visits from Repco (Reptiles), swords and stories, stuffed animal, and the dance party. Angelia also told the club about the libraries outreach programs at local daycares and recreation programs throughout the community. Thank you, Angelia!!!
