LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - SEPTEMBER 15, 2019 LeRoy Senior Knights - 40 Hornell Red Raiders - 6 The LeRoy Seniors Knights traveled to Hornell last Sunday to take on the Red Raiders. Hornell won the toss and chose to defer. LeRoy’s Colin Greene took the kick return 15 yards to give the Senior Knights good field position to start their first drive. On LeRoy’s first offensive series, Connor Elmore wasted no time getting into the end zone on a 27 yard run. Noah hit the crossbar on the PAT and it was unsuccessful. Hornell’s first possession started a little shaky with a couple of fumbled snaps and went three and out. On the Knights second possession they once again took no time punching it into the end zone. Joey Reschke bulldozed his way in on a 25 yard run. PAT successful by Kaczanowski. On Hornell’s second drive they were able to muster up a first down with a couple of completed passes but, LeRoy’s defense immediately shut them down with some great tackling by Noah Kaczanowski, Colin Kazmierczak, Avante Walker, and Colin Greene. Hornell would turnover the ball after trying for a fourth and long. Again, LeRoy was able to take advantage of Hornell’s defense. The Knights started the drive on their own 43 yard line. A few successful runs by Cam Wilson, Colin Greene, and Isaac Stella ultimately led to a 3 yard run into the end zone by Stella. Kaczanowski’s PAT kick would go through the uprights to give LeRoy a 22-0 lead. Hornell had a difficult time getting their offense going. What seemed to be a five yard completion led to a wrestling match between the Red Raiders receiver and Kaczanowski. Ultimately Kaczanowski won the fight and stripped the ball taking it down to the 5 yard line. Cam Wilson ended the one play drive with a 5 yard touchdown run up the middle. PAT no attempted. The score at halftime was 28-0. The second half began with the Red Raiders on offense. After a monster sack by Grady Gilligan on 2nd down Hornell took the ball 83 yards into the end zone because of multiple mis-tackles by the Knights. The Red Raiders extra point was stopped by Brady McClurg and Cam Riggi. LeRoy still led 28-6. Starting at their own 40 yard line the Knight’s offense had a couple nice runs by Colin Greene and Isaac Stella. They continued to move the ball down field until LeRoy fumbled and Hornell recovered. Hornell would start deep in their own territory. Cole Tonzi, Avante Walker, and Jacob Bowman would each contribute to tackles for losses. Hornell would turn the ball over giving the Knights a great start on the next possession. It would only take one play led by Cole Tonzi taking out two defenders to allow Connor Elmore to race into the end zone for a 15 yard touchdown. LeRoys last possession was finished off by a 15 yard touchdown by Colin Greene to make the final score LeRoy 40 Hornell 6. LeRoy’s offense was lead statistically by Isaac Stella who finished with 9 carries for 69 yards and 1 touchdown followed by Connor Elmore with 3 carries for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also, contributing were Colin Greene with 9 carries for 51 yards and 1 touchdown, Joey Reschke with 2 carries for 28 yards and a TD, Cam Wilson with 9 carries for 27 yards and a touchdown and Brady McClurg with 2 carries for 6 yards. Defensively, LeRoy was led by Avante Walker who totaled 7 tackles. Dawson Wojtaszczyk – 6 tackles, Colin Kazmierczak and Connor Elmore each had 5 tackles. With four tackles a piece were Noah Kaczanowski and Colin Greene. Jacob Bowman and Brady McClurg each had 3 tackles. Joey Reschke, Cam Riggi, Cloe Tonzi and Cam Wilson contributed two tackle a piece. Also contributing with tackles were Grady Gilligan, Brayden Chase, Jack Clifford and Donovan Gaillard.
