LeRoy Pennysaver & News
LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - SEPTEMBER 15, 2019 LeRoy Junior Football Hornell NY: The LeRoy Junior Knights took step 2 in their quest to get the Championship Back in Joe’s Barber Shop by soundly defeating previously unbeaten, Hornell 38-0 on the fast turf. Brennan Weber, fresh off his high altitude training in the Adirondacks along with David Wojtaszczyk (WOJO), fresh off loving his life, started step 2 off the same way they started step 1. Weber & Wojo attack separately and in packs just like the Adirondack coyotes that Weber chased in his training. They thwarted the Hornell ball carriers for minus -10 yards on the first 2 plays. Nutter Stiles shoe laces the ball carrier on 3rd down for the “Clean-up on isle 11” allowing Jude Christ to demolish the one legged ball carrier. LeRoy football for sure. Hornell punts a bomb on 4th down. Score 0-0. The Red 1 line is an ornery bunch on Sunday mornings after an hour long drive. Team captain Carter Paige couldn’t farm and was upset. Team captain Jacob Kochmanski couldn’t bounce on his trampoline and he was upset. Team captain Anthony “Rootbeer” Warner couldn’t make an extra point in warm- ups and he was upset. Mad angry lineman make quarterback Ryder Stiles and his talented trio of backs very happy. Tommy Clifford ran fast behind team captain Benito “Road-Dog” Bautista (Road-Dog doesn’t get upset) for runs of 13 & 14 yards. Austyn Silvernail enjoying his buddy Jude Christ’s blocking service runs for 11 yards on the very next play. Then Stiles & Silvernail hook up for some Razzle-Dazzle on a 16 yard TOUCHDOWN! PAT is no good LR 6-0. Hornell would test the murky Oatka creek waters on the left side. Nutter Stiles & Jude Christ serve up 2 combo platters that went for negative yards. Jacob Keller who knows this truck route down 390 teams up with Silvernail on 3rd down forcing another Hornell Punt. “Touchdown” Tommy Clifford has a pretty cool nickname that is no misnomer. Tommy gets the call on 4 of the 5 plays on the drive two for 25, 10, 5 & 3 for a TOUCHDOWN! Road-Dog and Jude Christ paved the way on the TD by de- cleating the linebacker. Anthony “Rootbeer” Warner missed both of his extra point attempts in the heavy swirling winds in Geneseo in week 1. In Hornell, Rootbeer would redeem himself by hitting a boomer that would have been good from 55 yards. His holder, his brother, Micheal Warner knew it was good just by the sound of the foot on the ball, “I heard it, I heard it!”. The team and fans love themselves some “Rootbeer” as everyone is all smiles. The new rule 2 point conversion kick is GOOD. LR 14-0. Hornell playing tough with 2 big backs and 2 state place winning wrestlers test the middle with limited success. On 4th down they try for a mis- direction play that newcomer “Big” Nick Lentine punches out as he sacks the quarterback and forces the fumble. Christ recovers and the momentum now is all LeRoy. The Junior Knights with all the momentum looks to end it early only to turn the ball over. Nicholas Porcelli saves the LeRoy offense by tackling the Hornell defender after the turnover. Hornell moves the ball 8 yards on its next possession with Roland “Stiff-Arm” Goodenough anchoring the defense. Ryan O’Geen found the ball carrier in two consecutive gang tackles. Nate Pangrazio’s speed got him in on, and around the ball carrier to stifle Hornell once again. The Score still 14-0 and all LeRoy Junior Knights was not comfortable. When in discomfort Ryder Stiles finds solace in Mathew McCulley. McCulley, a 3rd grader playing tackle football for the first season ever is a natural. Stiles flicks it to him and 39 yards in 5 strides, McCulley TOUCHDOWN! LR 20-0 halftime. The 3rd quarter started off with LeRoy on Offense and Hornell just beginning to substitute in their younger less experienced players. The older trio of LeRoy backs were just too much for Hornell’s young team Christ for 27 yards behind Jackson Nichols. Silvernail shreds 20 & 15 yards behind Luke Offen and Ryan Crissy with 3 missed tackles. Christ ends the party with a 12 yard TOUCHDOWN! LR 26- 0. Hornell with limited offensive success is starting to feel the pressure of the swarming, gang tackling, fast Knights. Jon Bogan, Andreas Condidorio & Jaxson Cook led the 2nd half charge that forced Hornell’s 5th punt of the game. Jude Christ would get escorted down the sideline by Ryan Crissy and Luke Offen for a 45 yard TOUCHDOWN! Micheal Warner and “Nasty” Hubbard pushed a huge hole for the thankful Christ. LR 32-0. In the final moments of the game Drew Beachel would manage the clock with nifty smart running to keep the time ticking. Beachel who usually delivers by air, delivers via ground shipping on this winning Sunday. On the final play of the game the LeRoy offense had a mix up and had no Quarterback in. Back-up BONE Back, Carson Stiles steps in under center and hands off to “Stiff- Arm” Goodenough off of his helmet. Good-enough for a TOUCHDOWN! LR 38-0. Step 3 takes place against Letchworth-Nunda-Castile- Gainesville-Perry-Friendship- Bliss-Leicester-Silver Lake this Sunday @ Noon.
