LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - SEPTEMBER 22, 2019 LeRoy Junior Knights Submitted by: Robert Stiles The Junior Knights (2-0) faced The Genesee Valley Bills (GVB) (3-0) Sunday in Letchworth. Both teams knew this was a high stakes encounter with the winner atop the CYFL North Division. More importantly, step 3’s matchup is the premier rivalry game at this level. LEROY V GVB - “HERE WE GO!” GVB on offense to start, slowly moved the ball and got a first down. Andreas Condidorio and Roland Goodenough in on tackles forces GVB into a false start penalty. GVB on 3rd and long tries the edge as Nutter Stiles plays it perfect and forces the ball carrier wide for “Touchdown” Tommy Clifford & Jude Christ to delete. Junior Knights Defense bends and doesn’t break, forcing a punt. LeRoy’s Junior Knights Red 1 line is stacked and Jacked for this rivalry game. The group is anchored by Benito “Road Dog” Bautista, Anthony “Rootbeer” Warner, David Wojtaszczyk (WOJO), Carter Paige (CP), Brennan Weber, Jacob Keller and 3rd grade sensation Jacob Kochmanski. This Group of lineman love high stake games and not coincidentally they also love steak cooked Medium Rare. On Drive #1 the Red 1 line dominated the field and the time of possession. They opened holes for TD Tommy Clifford & Austyn Silvernail. Clifford is nifty, fast and smart in his 24 yard gain behind “Road Dog” and Christ’s blocking. Ryder Stiles takes play #14 on the opening drive into the end-zone. TOUCHDOWN LeRoy! PAT by Stiles is good and the game is already into the 2nd quarter. LR 7-0. GVB on drive #2 doesn’t flinch. “Rootbeer” Warner smashes the ball carrier for -2 yards and momentum is swaying early in this battle. Rivals just don’t go away that easy. GVB’s Hernandez follows Justin Mann’s lead on the very next play for a 67 yard TOUCHDOWN! It was the first given up by the Knights Junior Defense this season. PAT fails - LR 7-6 GVB. The Junior Knights on Drive #2 start off slow. GVB adjusts and “Touchdown” Tommy is out of the game due to injury/illness and his absence is felt. LeRoy in 3rd & 13 draws GVB offsides on 2 consecutive plays to drive the ball into mid- field. The Junior Knights on 4th down and 8 show their solidarity and mental toughness. Ryder Stiles stares down the blitzing end and throws to Mathew McCulley for 11 yards. The Knights are on the move but time is flying and so is GVB’s relentless defense. With Clifford out, Austyn Silvernail is rolling. Silvernail was starting to get in a groove but GVB won’t go away. GVB sacks Stiles, who was targeting Jackson Nichols, ending the half in a great defensive football game. LR 7-6 Halftime. In the 3rd quarter, LeRoy gets in the fresh legs of Luke Offen, Ryan Crissy, Jesse “Nasty” Hubbard, Micheal Warner and Drew “Chicken Sandwich” Beechel. The fresh legs do well until a holding penalty negates their efforts and LeRoy has to Punt. GVB methodically moving the football busts a 28 yard run and is seeking to take the lead. Jon Bogan, Nick Lentine and “Nasty” Hubbard swarm the ball for no gain. Nate Pangrazio, Roland Goodenough and Brennan Weber lay the smack down on 4th down. Turnover on downs and still LR 7-6 GVB. Silvernail finds the groove for a 7 yard run. Junior Knights in high tempo call on Silvernail again and 68 yards TOUCHDOWN! PAT is no good LR 13-6 GVB. Nutter Stiles, Jude Christ & “Rootbeer” dial in on GVB’s next possession with solo tackles of 1 yard, - 2 yards and No Gain. GVB is forced to punt and the end of quarter 3. The Junior Knights at their own 43 get nowhere fast on 1st & 2nd down. Silvernail and RED1 looking to close out get back to good with Clifford’s triumphant return in the game. Clifford at less than 100% makes Silvernail, Christ & Stiles feel like themselves again. Then Silvernail and Red 1 start to shred for 16 yards to the 4 yard line. Carter Paige seeking to end the drama and the game blocks a huge hole with Jacob Kochmanski &Wojo for another TOUCHDOWN! Stiles walks in. Anthony “Rootbeer” Warner Ana his brother Micheal kick in the 2 point PAT to secure the win with 3 minutes remaining in the contest. LeRoy 21-6 Final. Step 4 to get the Trophy Back in Joe’s Barber Shop takes place in Caledonia this Saturday Night. The Junior Knights still with soreness from last years loss to Cal-Mum which kept them out of the Championship game against Bath who they defeated in week 1. Unfinished business starts @ 6pm.
