LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - NOVEMBER 24, 2019 LeRotary Notes A sunny cold day greeted the Rotary Club of LeRoy at their weekly meeting on November 13th. There were two guests, Gary Churchill from the Rotary Club of Batavia and our guest speaker Mike Cianfrini, Genesee County Clerk. After the Pledge and the three way test, announcements were made by President Mary Young and fellow Rotarians. To assure our eligibility to obtain a District Grant next year Marcia McKenzie graciously agreed to attend this weekends District Grant Seminar with Jim Ellison. Jessica Strollo has arranged a time for LeRoy Rotary to do the Salvation Army Bell Ringing at Tops for November 23rd. At the direction of Carol Wolfe, Rotary will be decorating a Main Street window for the Holiday Season. Shop with a Cop and Stuff the Cruiser will be in full force this year with the support of LeRoy Rotary. It was announced by Christine Gephart that the LeRoy Rotary Community Kitchen will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 12-1:30 with food preparation on the Tuesday prior. Volunteers are welcome. A Thirsty Thursday event at the Legion was announced by Betsy Halverson and Jim Ellison for November 14th. Missed meetings included Christine Gephart, Jeff Halladay, Merritt Holly, Scott McCumiskey, and Randy Vink. All having work or family related misses. Fines were minimal this week with President Mary levying heavy fines on Christine Gephart for a photo of her husband Jeff covering for her at the Appliance Raffle while she was off partying in Florida. Scott McCumiskey was given a very lame fine by Mary for a picture of him at the Appliance Raffle. Jim Bonacquisti was fined for the birth of his grandson and for his upcoming elbow surgery. Our guest speaker was Mike Cianfrini, Genesee County Clerk. Mike gave an interesting informative talk regarding the mission of the County Clerk’s office. The office provides the residents of Genesee County with services pertaining to their legal matters, motor vehicle and license transactions and personal business transactions. Their charge is also to preserve and safeguard the integrity of the records of the County for historical research, current transactions and permanent retention. Mike noted two particular areas of interest. One being the exponential increase in the number of pistol permits granted to Genesee County residents over the past few years. He also spoke extensively about the New York State Green Light Law. This legislation will provide undocumented immigrants with a legal solution to obtain a driver’s license. Mike spoke about the challenges this law will provide for the employees of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
