LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 23, 2020 LeRotary Notes The Rotary Club of LeRoy met at St. Ann’s at the Greens for their weekly luncheon meeting on February 12th. Rotarians recited the pledge, Bob Carlsen gave his as always inspirational invocation, and the entire club recited the four-way test. Guest today were Paul Osborne, Deputy Highway Superintendent as our guest speaker today and Beth Patton, who joined us to learn more about the Club. The Rotary Club continues to plan for two major spring events, the Easter Egg Hunt on April 11th and the Meat Raffle at the Legion on April 25th. Tickets will be available the first week in March for the Meat Raffle. Samantha Vagg announced that the Interact Club, a Rotary Club for Jr. and Sr. High School students, will be starting their Butterfly Project soon. Students are given a budget in which they are asked to change the world with a set amount of money. The goal is to build teamwork, leadership, business skills, and communication skills, all while helping a charity of their choice. The annual Graze to Raise, Rotary’s annual fund raiser for the Milne Scholarship, is May 15th. And, as always, the LeRoy Rotary Community Kitchen continues to serve the community every 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Afinewas levied against RandyVink for wonderful family news. His daughter is expecting her first baby! Samantha Vagg was fined for several things including a beautiful picture of her dog, her attire at a recent birthday party, and the accomplishments of her niece at the County Indoor Track Meet. Bob Sullivan was fined for his attempts to stay in shape for the Spring Bocce League and a fine was levied against Christine Gephart for her weekend events. Bob Carlsen spoke proudly of his daughter’s retirement after over 20 years ownership of Country Hill Gift shop. The guest speaker was Paul Osborne, Genesee County Deputy Highway Superintendent. Paul is also the Supervisor of our wonderful Genesee County Parks system. He spoke about the recent improvements to both the Genesee County Park and DeWitt Recreation Area. From Birding Walks, Tree ID Hikes, guided Dog Walks, to name a few events, the Park continues to offer amazing year-long programs to residents. He spoke extensively about the 4.6 mile east-west bike trail known as the Ellicott Trail. The path will traverse through roads, parks, wetlands, and abandoned railway beds.
