Have a Safe and Enjoyable Holiday. God Bless America and God Bless Our Military Veterans. Clip and Save Clip and Save by James Farnholz Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6910 ext. 231 As I begin this column I initially thought that I didn’t have very much good news to share with the community. Then as I started to reflect on Memorial Day I came to the realization of what truly bad news was. I can’t imagine what it was like for my grandparents, mother, and aunt when they received the news that my uncle had died in the service of this country. None of them truly ever got over it. Going through his army trunk, which was never opened after his death, I got just a little understanding of what those who lost a loved one in the service must go through. So I would like to thank all those who have served and the families of those who have paid the ultimate price for our country. Regardless of the problems and inconvenience of the present pandemic, we will come through this. Over the past few weeks the Town Board, the Mayor, and myself in consultation with the Genesee County Department of Health have wrestled with opening the pool and recreation program. As most of you know from the announcement Merritt Holly made for us, the recreation program is cancelled for the summer, as well as not opening the community pool. This was not an easy decision to make. However, after weighing all of the factors and the placement of recreation into phase four of the reopening plan we had very little choice. I understand the impact this has on everyone in the community but we will come back next summer with the great recreation and pool program we have all come to expect . Finally I must express my profound disappointment in the Genesee County Legislatures decision to suspend revenue sharing with the towns and villages of the county. There were several proposals to share in the reduction of revenue with the county without complete revocation of sharing. These alternative proposals were not considered. What that means for LeRoy is that for 2020 the county has pulled $733,000 in revenue with no guarantee of payment of any portion of that. This is a devastating blow to our budget. However thanks to years of conservative fiscal management by Steve Barbeau and the Town Boards over the years, we will remain solvent and work to do our best to mitigate the impact on taxpayers. However, if things remain as they are now with revenue sharing there will be an impact on taxes. As I said in the beginning of this column I didn’t think I had much good news to tell you. Perhaps that is so, but try to keep things in perspective this Memorial day and remember those who paid the ultimate price for our country and the families they left behind. So with that I say Thank You to all our veterans and I hope to see you around town. Around Town Rotary Club of LeRoy Establishes the Community Reinvestment Fund The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are being felt across the globe, but signs of the effects can be seen in our community. The impact may not be evident to the naked eye, but the ramifications are impacting our friends and neighbors who own these businesses. As both state and national levels begin to restart the economy, those same businesses that have supported LeRoyans in the past need our support more than ever. The “Community Reinvestment Fund” will take donations made by local individuals and families and direct them to the LeRoy businesses in need. The application is available on our website: leroyrotary.org . Rotarians and their families are not eligible to receive funds through this process. You can apply online or by mail. Individuals or businesses interested in supporting our community can make contributions by mailing a check to: Rotary Club of LeRoy Attn: Community Reinvestment Fund PO Box 41 LeRoy, NY 14482 Any questions can be directed to Jim Ellison at: jdellison@gmail.com or 717-503-5749.
