Later, with the score 4-2 Warner connected again, this time for an RBI double and when Connor Elmore followed him up with an RBI single the Yankees had a seemingly comfortable 8-2 lead. However, the Orioles would come charging back with a 5 run 5th inning to close the score to 8-7. The big rally was highlighted by RBI’s from Deacon Queal, Brady MClurg, and Cam Wilson. The Orioles threatened again in the bottom of the 6th as the tying run was on 3rd base with only one out. The Yankees then made two impressive defensive plays to secure the win – first catcher Anthony Warner retrieved a pass ball and tagged out the advancing runner at the plate and on the next pitch his 9 year old brother Michael made a nice play and throw from third base for the game’s final out. For the Orioles McClurg pitched a fine game recording 8 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. Offensively the Orioles were led by Cam Wilson who reached base safely all 4 plate appearances and scored 2 runs. Mia Strollo also reached base 4 times. McClurg, Grady Gilligan, Simon Greene, and Cam Maxwell all added hits for the O’s. For the Yankees Cam Riggi, Connor Elmore, and Colin Greene combined for a solid pitching performance with Riggi recording 7 strikeouts as the starter. Offensively for the Yanks Riggi scored three runs, AnthonyWarner has 2 hits and 4 RBI, Connor Elmore had 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Colin Greene had 2 hits and 1 RBI. Drew Beachel had a hit in his first Little League at bat as a 9 year old and made a fine defensive play making a catch in deep left field. Nate Pangrazio also made 2 nice plays in the outfield for the Yankees. Twins 12 Indians 5 The Twins and Indians faced each other for the first time in the 2020 season. The visiting Twins would jump out quick, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Indians would also jump on the board in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs. The bats were hot in the second inning for the Twins scoring five runs and allowing zero. The Indians put one more on the scoreboard in the third and the fourth inning was pretty quiet with no runs scored. The bats woke up for the Twins in the fifth inning, scoring four more runs and the Indians scored one. Both teams scored in the sixth inning with a final score of 12-5. Hayven Cordes would start on the mound for the Indians striking out two batters. Peyton Privitera would step onto the mound in the second and third innings with one strikeout. Jagger Smith would relieve Privitera and strike out three batters. Jeremiah Sheehan would step up to the mound in the top of the fourth and strike out four batters. Jace Jedrewski finished the game on the mound for the Indians with two strikeouts. Avante’ Walker started on the mound for the Twins striking out 7 batters. Brayden Chase would relieve Walker in the 4th inning and finish the game with 6 strikeouts. Hitting for the Indians were Jace Jedrewski (a double and two singles), Jeremiah Sheehan (1 hit), Ryan O’Geen (1 hit), Tommy Clifford (1 hit), and Liam Ortiz (1 hit). Tommy Clifford, Jeremiah Sheehan, and Jagger Smith would get on base with a walk in the first inning. Jace Jedrewski would score two runs on pass balls and had 2 RBI’s. All of the Twins would contribute to the offense. Noah Kaczanowski (3 walks, 1 double), Kade Olivani (2 walks, 1 hit), Brayden Chase (2 hits, 1 double), Avante’ Walker (1 hit, 2 doubles), Matthew McCulley (4 walks), Jude Christ (1 walk, 1 hit), Dominac Dieter (1 walk), Reece Prysbyl (2 walks), and Colin Kazmerciak (1 walk). Brayden Chase and Avante’ Walker had 3 RBI’s each while Jude Christ also had 2 RBI’s. Indians 2 Red Sox 1 The Indians and Red Sox met for the first time this season on Saturday morning with Joey Vernaccini taking the mound for the Red Sox and Jace Jedrewski toeing the rubber for the Indians. This game was dominated by both starting pitchers early as Vernaccini recorded 8 strikeouts through the first 3 innings while Jedrewski did his best to keep up registering 6 K’s of his own through three. However, the Red Sox would score first in this one taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Cole Tonzi walked and Joey Vernaccini hit a high fly ball to center field that was dropped allowing Tonzi to score. Vernaccini continued to dominate the game on the mound reaching his pitch limit in the 5th inning after striking out 13 Indians Orioles 6 Twins 3 On Saturday, July 25th the O’s were looking to get their first win against the red hot Twins. On the strong arm of O’s pitchers Grady Gilligan, they got that win! Grady pitched a complete game with only throwing 61 pitches and 10 strikeouts. The O’s bats came alive with Brady McClurg leading the way going 4 for 4 and key hits by Cam Maxwell, Cam Wilson, Simon Greene, Mia Strollo, Deacon Queal, and Logan Kanaley. But the Twins played hard and were led by the hot hitting of Noah Kaz and Brayden Chase. Kade Olivani also contributed with a big RBI. The Twins young players also showed what they could do! Matthew McCulley came into pitch striking out 3 batters and Reece Pryzbl had the catch of the year so far grabbing a sky- high pop fly in deep left field. The O’s ended up winning 6 to 3.
