LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - AUGUST 23, 2020 Matthew McCulley singled to get the bottom of the third started. Avante Walker hit a hard single to score both runners. Brayden Chase doubled to score Walker. At the end of the inning the score is now 3 to 2 Twins. A walk to Grady Gilligan started off the top of the 4th. But a scary moment occurred as Simon Greene hit a hard single up the middle and it hit Noah’s lower leg. He was down for a couple minutes then decided to get up and try and walk it off. With Noah’s competitive mind there was no way he was going to come out of the game. He stayed in and finished the inning only allowing one run. Score is 3 to 3. With Gilligan’s nasty curveball he would strike out the side and send the O’s to the top of the fifth. Score is still 3 to 3. Brady McClurg singled again to start off the fifth, but Kaczanowski’s pitching shut down the O’s. Twin’s time to hit and an RBI single by Matthew McCulley would put the Twins up 4 to 3 in the bottom of the 5th inning. In the top of the 6th inning Simon Greene would come up big again at the plate for the O’s and drive in the tying run to tie the game at 4. Brayden Chase would relieve Noah and take the mound for the Twins. He would retire the next 3 batters to let the Twins come to bat. Simon Greene would relieve Grady Gilligan for the O’s. Simon would start where Gilligan left off. Simon’s fastball would shut down the Twins and end the inning On to the 7th inning. Both sides would have strong pitching and not have anyone score. The top of the 8th was crucial for the O’s to score and they came through. A double fromGrady Gilligan, single from Simon Greene and a single from Tommy Clifford scored 3 runs for the O’s. Making the score 7 to 4 O’s. Twins needed 3 runs to tie the game Simon Greene was not phased as he looked to close the game. With only giving up a single to Brayden Chase, the O’s would get 3 outs and end the game. Final score was 7 to 4 O’s. Great game played by both teams. Yankees 11, Twins 10 (7 innings) Yankees 7, Twins 4 The Yankees and the Twins completed two exciting games this week with the Yankees coming out on top in both contests. The first game was an extra inning thriller with the Yankees finally prevailing 11-10 in 7 innings. Connor Elmore had a big game for the Yanks with 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBI to go along with a solid pitching performance. For the Yankees Colin Greene had 2 hits, 3 runs and the game winning, walk-off RBI. Michael Warner had 3 hits and 1 RBI, and Aiden Weaver, Drew Beachel, and Nate Pangrazio all added hits. Anthony Warner was the winning pitcher For the Twins Brayden Chase let the way with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Matthew McCulley laced a booming RBI double and scored 3 times. Noah Kacznowski, Avante Walker, Jude Christ, and Carter Page added hits for the Twins. In the second game the Yankees used a balance offensive attack coupled with a solid combined pitching performance from Colin Greene and Connor Elmore in a 7-4 victory. Elmore was once again impressive at the plate with clutch 2 run double in the 4th inning to give the Yankees the lead for good. Michael Warner delivered a 2-run double of his own an inning later to put the game out of reach. Colin Greene, Aiden Weaver, Drew Beachel, and Nate Pangrazio all added hits for the Yankees. For the Twins Noah Kacznowski led the way with 2 hits, while Matthew McCulley, Avante Walker, and Brayden Chase collected hits for the Twins. Indians 3, Red Sox 1 The Indians and Red Sox met for the second time this season in a battle for second place as Jace Jedrewski got the start for the Indians with Isaac Stella getting the nod for the Red Sox. The visiting Indians took an early 1-0 lead in this one in the top of the first inning after Jagger Smith reached base on a fielder’s choice and came around to score on an RBI single by Jace Jedrewski. In the bottom of the first, the Red Sox would threaten after Isaac Stella led off with a double and Cole Tonzi singled giving the Sox two runners on with no outs. However, Jace Jedrewski would strike out the next 3 Sox batters to end the rally. The score would stay unchanged until the top of the 3rd when Jedrewski would lead off with a double and come around to score on a single by Hayven Cordes. Cordes would then get knocked in by a single off the bat of Peyton Privitera to give the Indians a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Red Sox would again threaten after walks to Cole Tonzi, Evan Rose and Joey Reschke loaded the bases but Jedrewski again worked out of the jam keeping the score 3-0. The 3-0 score would hold until the bottom of the 5th when the Sox would get their first run of the game after Cole Tonzi doubled and came around to score on a throwing error. After a walk to Joey Vernaccini, Jedrewski was replaced on the mound by Jagger Smith, who came on to end the inning and hold the Red Sox scoreless the rest of the way ending a very well played game by both teams. For the Indians (7-3), Jace Jedrewski got the win on the mound scattering 3 hits over 4 2/3 innings and striking out 8. Jagger Smith earned the save with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out 3. Offensively, Peyton Privitera led the Indians with 3 hits and an RBI while Jace Jedrewski and Tommy Clifford both added 2 hits. Hayven Cordes (1 RBI), Ryan O’Geen and Jeremiah Sheehan also added hits for the Indians. For the Red Sox (5-5), Issac Stella was fantastic on the mound with 11 K’s through 5 innings. Evan Rose pitched the final inning with 1K. At the plate, Cole Tonzi led the Sox with 2 hits (1 2B) and a run scored while Isaac Stella also added a double. Evan McCallister also added a hit for the Sox.
