Mike Darby's Patch & Paint Indians 10, Tigers 7 The second seeded Indians and top seeded Tigers met for the third time this season in the winner- take- all Scanlan Cup final after having split their two meetings earlier in the season. The Indians advanced to the finals with a 6-4 victory over the Red Sox and were a hot team having won their last 6 games while the Tigers advanced after knocking off the Yankees by a score of 15-4. Peter Clark got the starting nod for the Tigers with Hayven Cordes on the hill for the Indians. The visiting Indians came out hot in this one in the top of the 1st after Tommy Clifford singled and Jagger Smith reached on an error giving the Indians 2 on with no outs. Jace Jedrewski would then hit an RBI single scoring Clifford and Hayven Cordes would hit a fielder’s choice scoring Smith. Jedrewski and Cordes would both eventually score on passed balls giving the Indians an early 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the 1st, the Tigers would also get on the board after Alex Spezzano doubled and was hit home on a single by Jack Currin. However, the Indians would make some big plays on defense including a great catch in RF by Ryan O’Geen to end the inning. In the top of the 2nd, the Indians would add to their lead after Jagger Smith singled and Jace Jedrewski walked. Hayven Cordes would then help himself with a 2-run single scoring Smith and Jedrewski to give the Indians a 6-1 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Tigers would get a lead- off single from Carter Page but the Indians defense would again shine with Jagger Smith making a couple big plays at shortstop including a fantastic diving catch that would keep the score 6-1 after 2. The Tigers would tack on a run in the 3rd after a double by Alex Spezzano and a sacrifice fly by Peter Clark to make the score 6-2 after 3. In the top of the 4th, the Indians got a run after Tommy Clifford was hit by a pitch and Jagger Smith singled. Clifford then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jace Jedrewski making the score 7-2. In the bottom half of the 4th, the Tigers would threaten after Carter Page and Tom Chrissy singled and Andreas Condidorio walked to load the bases with nobody out. However, good pitching from Hayven Cordes and some timely defense helped the Indians get out of the inning with no runs allowed. In the home half of the 5th inning, the Tigers would claw back into the game. Peter Clark and Liam Grayson both singled and Clark came around to score on an RBI single by Jude Christ. Thomas Chrissy would then hit a double scoring Grayson and Christ to make the score 7-5. However, the Indians would settle in on defense and Jagger Smith would come on to pitch and strike out 2 batters in the inning to end the rally. In the top of the 6th inning, the Indians would add some insurance runs with a 2-out rally. Jagger Smith started the rally with a double to deep left field and came around to score on a single by Jace Jedrewski. Then Hayven Cordes stepped up to the plate and blasted his first Little League home run over the left field fence scoring Jedrewski and giving the Indians a 10-5 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers would again make things interesting after Alex Spezzano reached base on an error and came around to score on an RBI single by Peter Clark. Liam Grayson would then hit a double and Jude Christ would hit a single scoring Clark to make the score 10-7. However, the Indians would again flash great defense as Jeremiah Sheehan, Eddie Lathan and Tommy Clifford made some outstanding plays in the field to record the final 3 outs and give the Indians the 2020 Scanlan Cup Championship.
