The one summer that I remember was the year my Dad had cecropia moth caterpillars in a wire cage on the porch, and I had to cut branches from the cherry tree to feed them. The porch was also the “stage” for Halloween decorations and all the Christmas lights. Eventually some of the screened porches were enclosed and became unheated rooms, or entries. Many large porches have not survived, and have been taken down but as you drive around LeRoy, there are some wonderful front porches, but few houses have a back porch quite like LeRoy House. In this present situation, with the virus and social distancing, it has become the place for the Historical Society’s monthly board meetings and a new colorful barn quilt is being painted on the west end.
