HELP WANTED by James Farnholz Supervisor, Town of LeRoy (585) 768-6910 ext. 231 I would first like to wish everyone a Happy Easter and Passover. Hopefully we have rounded the corner and are headed for a more normal summer. In answer to many questions I have received , yes we are planning on running Rec. this summer and opening the pool. We will do both of those things within the guidelines that the state puts forward. As we know those guidelines are a moving target and change almost daily. Luke Weaver (our rec. director) has begun planning already. Look for more information in future editions of the pennysaver and on the Town and Rec. websites. In the last few months the Town Board has looked to finish some long term projects that we have been working on. The first is the code and zoning for commercial solar projects in the Town. This is the culmination of several years work between the planning board, code enforcement and the town board. The code was voted on and approved by the Board with a 4-1 vote. Briefly stated, ground mounted commercial projects will be allowed in areas that are zoned either industrial or in an interchange zone. Areas that are zoned commercial will allow commercial solar to be roof mounted. There will be no commercial solar allowed in areas zoned residential agricultural or areas zoned agricultural. This was the subject of months of discussion and debate as well as a public hearing prior to the Boards vote. The new code should be returned from the State’s review and should go into effect by June. The next item came to my attention several months ago. In the absence of an agreement with village as it pertains to police service that expired in 2011. The village police had to wait for permission from the county Sheriffs department to answer calls in the Town. Between the hours of 7 pm to 7 am there is only one sheriffs car assigned to the eastern half of the county. In discussions with former chief Chris Haywood and chief Greg Kellogg it became apparent that this system was causing a delay in service to residents of the town. Prior to 2011 the closest car to the call was dispatched be it State Police, Sheriff, or Village Police with no call or discussion to the Sheriff’s department. Both the Chief and myself wanted to return to this system. With 2 village police cars on duty this would cause no loss of coverage to the village or additional cost . There was a great deal of debate on this and the Town Board voted 3-2 to send the contract to the Village Board. The village board voted 4-1 not to change the present system. At this time there are no plans to revisit this issue. On a positive note the Town hall is now open for business. At this time social distancing and masks are still required. Again I would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter and Passover. I hope to see you around town enjoying the weather. Around Town Contact Taylor Gunther 585-786-8153
