LeRoy Pennysaver & News
LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JUNE 20, 2021 The Rotary Club of LeRoy met at the LeRoy Country Club June 9th. President Mary Margaret Ripley called the meeting to order at exactly 12:15 pm. The Pledge, Prayer and 4-Way test followed, along with introduction of guests, Ryan Kettle and guest speaker Andres Manamon from Peas and Harmony Farm. Announcements included Installation Dinner for incoming President Ben Deragon on June 30th, REAL (Rotary Excited About Literature) at the LeRoy Farmers Market June 26th, Committees forming for the new year and Rotary Dues are now due to Treasurer Jason Karcher. Next up was missed meeting fining. Tracy Ford had no make-ups for her missed meetings, David Grayson said he was working last week and paid his fine, Betsy Halvorsen used the Board meeting as a make-up, Scott McCumiskey used the Hot Dog stand meeting as a make-up, Bob Sullivan had no make-ups for his missed meetings, Sam Vagg had plenty of make- ups for her meeting misses, including community kitchen and Milne. Bruce Baker and Carol Wolfe are both Rule 85 which means they don’t have to account for their misses but still told the club they must have been doing something very exciting otherwise they would not have missed Rotary. Since the Rotary year is winding down for the Club fines were sparse today but Gerry Aron was fined for his wife taking him on a secret adventure the previous Saturday to a car show in Greece and then landing at the New York Beer Project for refreshment. Then President Mary Margaret asked for Tracy Ford, Martha Bailey, Ben Deragon, Sam Vagg, and Randy Vink to all stand up. What did all of the these Rotarians have in common she asked? Tracy Ford said that perhaps the reason was that they were all good looking people? Quite right but not the reason. All of these very good looking people standing before President Mary Margaret and the club are members of the Business Council. In fact so many Rotarians are on the Business Council that they could almost use it as a make- up and now President MM knows where they all are when they miss a Rotary meeting. A flurry of fining took place with the revelation of this tid-bit of info. Andres Manamon from Peas and Harmony Farm was introduced as guest speaker for the day. Andres spoke about how he got into farming and the love he has for the land and certain farm practices including no-till farming. He grows such crops as Asian greens, salad greens, radishes, and is branching out every year. He participated for the first time last year as a vendor at the LeRoy Farmers Market and enjoyed the customers very much. He has taken on the role as Entertainment director for the market and was excited to say that all 16 weeks of the market are booked with fabulous musical acts. Andres also told the club about his military service as an 0-3 Lieutenant in the Navy Reserve and the very specific jobs he did including inspecting ships. The club asked many questions and enjoyed Andres’s enthusiasm for farming and his family.
