LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 17, 2021 Submitted by Joseph Bogue On Saturday the 5-0 LeRoy Junior Knights faced off against the 5-0 Genesee Valley Bills in a battle where both teams are fighting to stay ahead in the race to the CYFL Championship. The Bills started with ball and it didn't take long for them to strike. Dylan Dueppengeisser took a hand off and weaved his way through the Knights Defense for a touchdown. 6-0 Bills. This was the first time all season the Knights have trailed in a game. The Knights now on offense would show their quick strike offense came to play. Thomas Englerth, Jace Beauchamp, Carter McClurg, Brianna Porcelli, and John Amico would open holes in the stingy Bills Defense and on the 4th play Sammy Bogue would follow Blake Biracrees blocks down the sideline for a Knight's touchdown. 6-6. GVB would take exactly 1 play to take the lead back as Dueppengeisser took another hand off to the end zone for another touchdown. 12-6 Bills. And the shootout was on. The Knights took over and 2 plays later Ryan Crissy did what Ryan Crissy does. A spectacular run with some great blocking by Cole Cray and Blake Fetzer 65 yards for another Knights touchdown !! 12-12. That's how the first quart would end. The second quarter was just like the first. Both teams marching up and down the field. The Bills on offense would make the first mistake. A hand off gone bad and Jace Beauchamp comes away with the ball for the Knights. Now looking to take their first lead of the game and QB Ryker VanGalio would go to the air. A big throw on first down to Carter McClurg put the Knights first and goal on the 1 yard line. That's when VanGalio called his own number and ran the ball in to the end zone. On the conversion Ryan Crissy took a jet sweep in for the Knights first lead of the game 19- 12. That lead wouldn't last long as Dueppengeisser would have no trouble finding the end zone again. 19-18 Knights. With the half winding down the Knights brought in some fresh legs. Connar Hanley, Wyatt Whipple, Andy Murphy,ElijahYaw,Eonjay Robinson and Jaiden Biletski came in to give the offense a spark. However 2 plays in the Knights would turn the ball over to the Bills and they would pay for that mistake. 3 plays later Dueppengeisser is in for another touchdown 24- 19 Bills. Now 2 minutes left and hoping to take the lead back the Knights in a hurry up offense. Blake Fetzer takes a hand off for some tough yards. Next Sammy Bogue breaks free and follows Ben Biracree down to the 19 yard line then VanGalio airs it out to Ryan Crissy for the Knights touchdown !! 25- 24 at the half The second half started and ended the same. Both defenses struggling to find their grooves. Dueppengeisser would find the end zone 1 time in the 3rd quarter while LeRoy would use their entire group of talented backs to keep the game close. Sammy Bogue would take a hand off down the left side behind Cam Montesano and weave his way 70 yards for 1 touchdown the 3rd quarter would come to an end tied at 32. Now with 10 minutes left and pressure mounting it was time to see who wanted it more. Some sloppy play by both teams and a couple turn overs slowed the teams offenses down giving the defenses a little time to breathe. The Bills would strike first. To take the lead 38-32. Now again with less than 2 minutes left in the game they needed a spark. Some crafty running by Crissy and Bogue would get the Knights down to the 2 yard line. That's when VanGalio would tie the game up with a powerful run up the middle. The 4th quarter came to an end in a 38-38 tie and we're going to over time. The Knights won the toss and looked to put this game away. On their first play Bogue takes a pitch from VanGalio and gets in the end zone for a Knight's touchdown !! Now the most important 2 yards of the game on the conversion Thomas Englerth blows open a big hole and Bogue walks through to give the Knights a 45-38 lead. But it wasn't over. GVB now with a chance to even it goes back to the well 1 more time and on 3rd down Dueppengeisser scored his 7th touchdown of the day. 45-44 knights. On the conversion the Knights Defense dug in and brought the pressure. Forcing Dueppengeisser inside weaving and looking for the end zone but Blake Biracree started the pile and his teammates jumped on stopping the Bills inches short. 45-44 final Knights win. Who would have thought a game with 89 points and over 800 yards of offense would end with a stop on a 2 yard play ?? The 6-0 Knights travel to Avon Sunday looking to stay alive in the race to the championship. LeRoy Junior Knights football
