Submitted by Ric Vangalio OnSunday, theundefeated Le Roy Junior Knights (6- 0) traveled to Avon to face the Junior Braves (3-3). Le Roy, who was coming off last week’s exhilarating overtime win against GVB knew they would be facing another tough division foe in Avon who has a tough defense and a potent aerial attack on offense. The Knights who are used to getting on the scoreboard early and often, quickly realized they were in for a tough battle as their first drive was shut down despite some tough runs by RBs Sammy Bogue and Mason Doran. The Knights defense took the field and started off hot with a nice tackle by Blake Fetzer. A 3rd down sack by Carter McClurg and Ryker Vangalio forced an Avon punt, and with a nice return by Bogue to the Avon 17 yard line, the Knights were in business. The Knights took advantage of the nice field position as Sammy Bogue ran it in for a TD two plays later. Vangalio took a QB sneak in for the extra point to give the Knights an early 7-0 lead in the contest. The excitement didn’t last long though, as the Braves would answer right back two plays later with a long run down the sidelines for a TD of their own. Some tight pass coverage by Cam Weber led to an incomplete pass on the extra point to put the score 7-6 Le Roy. With the ball back on offense, Le Roy put together another nice drive. Bogue had a nice run to put them in the Red Zone before QB Ryker Vangaio was flushed out of the pocket on a pass play and scrambled for a 12 yard TD run. The Knights were stopped short on the extra point attempt, but took a 13-6 lead to begin the second quarter. Avon was not going to go away quietly though as they put together a long drive of their own, capped off by a 40 yard catch and run for a Braves TD. Another unsuccessful point after attempt for Avon would give the Knights a 13- 12 lead at the half. The second half started with defensive stands by both teams. But, with Avon pinned down deep inside of their own territory and setting up for a punt, it looked like the Knights were primed to possibly break the game open. But a muffed punt by the Knights gave Avon the ball right back and they were back in business. Three plays later that turnover came back to haunt Le Roy as the Avon TE took a 10 yard pass and ran it 75 yards for another Braves TD. The extra point attempt was no good, but the damage had been done as Avon took a 18-13 lead in the 3rd quarter. Could the Knights undefeated season be coming to an end on a windy chilly day in Avon? Not if Sammy LeRoy Junior Knights Football Continued on page 8...
