The recent storm dumping 14 inches of snow on top of the previous 18 inches have kept our DPW working to keep streets and sidewalks passible as well as getting the piles off Main St. The ground hog said last week we have 6 more weeks of this coming. We have a village election coming up on March 15th with current trustee’s Bill Kettle and Rich Tetrault both seeking re-election and Bill Lambert looking to be elected to one of the two, 4-year term positions. Polling hours will be noon until 9 pm at the Village Hall at 3 W. Main St. Please take time to vote as it is very important. The village board will begin it’s budget planning process for the upcoming year. It promises to be very challenging with the rate of inflation which touches everything we all do. Please rest assured we will do our best to navigate through this tough time to minimize any raise in your taxes. “The art of being happy, lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things” Henry Ward Beecher Mayor's Corner Look at our WEBSITE for lots of ideas! www.lakestreetflorist.com Lakestreet Florist & Gift Shoppe We Deliver To: LE ROY, Byron, Bergen, Caledonia, Mumford, Pavilion, Wyoming, Stafford & Batavia Teleflora Wire Service For Family & Friends Out of Town 585-768-7720 110 Lake St., Le Roy COOK'S LANDSCAPING - 330-3819 Like Us On Facebook Lakestreet Florist 8352 HOURS: Mon. - Thurs. 9-5:30· Fri. 9-5:00· Sat. 9-3:00 Teleflora's Charming Heart Bouquet $79.95 (Plus Tax & Del.) · All prices do not include tax & del. 12 Carnations In Vase - $50.00 5 Greens & BB 12 Roses Boxed - $65.00 1 Greens & BB 6 Roses Boxed - $42.95 2 Greens & BB 12 Roses In Vase - $79.95 3 Greens & BB Monday, February 14th, 2022 Order By Number Our Most Popular Requests 12 Carnations Boxed - $40.00 6 Greens & BB · Color choice of Roses - red, white, pink, yellow, purple. · Flowers always include baby's breath & greens in price. 6 Roses In Vase - $55.95 Greens & BB 4 PLEASE ORDER EARLY Due to Covid 19 there is a flower shortage. LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 13, 2022 by Ric Vangalio GLOWREGION- 4th GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL: The boys 4th Grade Le Roy Knights basketball team were looking to keep their undefeated season going while facing off against the Wildcats of Wheatland-Chili. The Knights who were coming off another dominating win last week, were looking to stay hot (and unbeaten) before their big showdown against fellow undefeated team Geneseo, next week. The Knights were playing without leading scorer Ryker Vangalio, but the best part of this team is it’s depth. That depth allowed them to not miss a beat in this game as they got off to their usual hot start again in this game. Dylan Loftus’ 6 first quarter points allowed the Knights to take an early 12-4 lead at the end of the period. Great defense by Harrison Porter, Kypton Cone and Andrew Sibley in the second quarter allowed the Knights to widen that margin even more. That defense, combined with Carter Mclurg chipping in 6 first half points, allowed the Knights to go up 18-4 at the midway point of the game. The second half was much like the first half. Shutdown defense provided by Thomas Englerth and the offense of Blake Biracree who scored 4 of his 6 points helped seal the victory and keep the Knights undefeated season alive. With the win, the Knights moved to 5-0 on the season. They play Geneseo next week in a game that could clinch the regular season championship for the Knights with a victory. Dylan Loftus led the Knights in scoringwith 14 points. Other offensive contributors were Carter McClurg (11 points) and Blake Biracree (6 points) KTA COED BASKETBALL LEAGUE: 3rd/4th Grade League Game #1: Lakers vs Knicks The first game of the 3rd/4th Grade division was a match-up of the winless Lakers (0-4) vs the Knicks (2-2). The Lakers were looking for their first win of the season, while the Knicks were looking to stay in the hunt for the top seed with only 2 weeks left before the KTA playoffs. The Knicks got off to a great start with a 7-2 lead at the end of the first period. The Lakers were hoping to get back in the game in the 2nd period but the Knicks defense only tightened even more. After pitching a shutout in the 2nd quarter, the Knicks led at the half 11-4. The Knicks were not going to let the momentum slip away, as they ran away with the lead and the game in the 2nd half. In the end it was the Knicks with a 23-4 victory to move to 3-2 on the season. The Lakers were left still looking for their first win of the season and dropped to 0-5. The Knicks were led by Blake Biracree with 6 points. Other offensive contributors were Eli Fortuna (4 points), Ben Biracree (4 points), Thomas Englerth (4 points), Jackson Hubbard (2 points) and Blake Fetzer (2 points). The Lakers were led by Eden Bailey and Addy Stells with 2 points each. Game #2: Lakers vs Celtics The second game of the night came withmajor playoff ramifications. With both teams tied at 3-1, the winner would take the lead in the race for the top seed in the playoffs. The Celtics knew they had their work cut out for them with a tough Bulls team. On top of that, they would be playing without team and league scoring leader Ryker Vangalio. In a game that matched up the highest scoring teams in the league, it was the defense that came to play. In a combination of great defense and unforgiving rims on both ends of the court the Bulls finished the 1st half with a 6-2 lead. Both teams were determined to get the offense rolling in the 2nd half. Both teams left disappointed. They say the month of March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb. The same could be said for the 2nd half of this game. The 3rd quarter came in like a lion with 8 combined points, but left like a lamb. Actually a sedated, elderly, debilitated lamb. No points were scored in the 4th quarter. After all was said and done, the Bulls came away with a 11-5 victory to move to 4-1 on the season. The Celtics fell to 3-2 on the season. The Bulls are now in control of their own destiny and can clinch the #1 seed in the upcoming playoffs with a win next week. The Bulls were led in scoring by Carter McClurg with 5 points. Other offensive contributors were Dylan Loftus (4 points) and Harrison Porter (2 points) The Celtics were led by both Paul Winters and Kypton Cone with 2 points each. Other offensive contributors were Cole Cray with 1 point. 1st/2nd Grade League Game #1: Blazers vs Rockets The first game of the 1st/2nd Grade League was between the Blazers and the Rockets. The Rockets were still looking for their first win of the season while the Blazers were hoping to go over .500 for the year. In what proved to be a very entertaining game, both teams came out hot in the first half. Trenton Alford started off the scoring with two nice jump shots to put the Blazers in the early lead. The game went back and forth pretty much the entire game as Payson “Don’t call me Steph Curry” Keller provided most of the offense for the Rockets. Keller hit multiple times from the outside to score 10 points in the first half. Tarick Vangalio got in on the action by scoring two buckets in transition for the Blazers, while Ameaus Largeroy answered with 2 points for the Rockets in the first half. The first half ended deadlocked in a 12-12 tie. The 2nd half was just as entertaining as the first, as Alley Loftus did what Alley Loftus does, SCORE BUCKETS, as she scored 6 points with some nice shooting for the Blazers. Aaron Bailey proved that sometimes big scoring comes in tiny packages as he scored 4 points in the half for the Blazers. Raelyn Cosimeno continued laughing all the way to the bank as she scored 4 points as well. But much like the first half, Le Roy Youth Basketball
LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 13, 2022 when Keller pumped in 10 points the second half was a mirror image. The only thing Keller was missing today was the rim, because everything was “all net” in the game as he led both teams in scoring with 20 points. Austin Branton also chipped in 8 second half points for the Rockets as they earned their first win of the season with a 30-26 win. The Blazers leading scorer was Alley Loftus with 8 points. Other offensive contributors were Trenton Alford (6 points), Tarick Vangalio (4 points), Aaron Bailey (4 points) and Raelyn Cosimeno (4 points). The Rockets were led by Payson Keller with 20 points. Other offensive contributors were Austin Branton (8 points) and Ameaus Largeroy (2 points). Game #2: Raptors vs Warriors The last game of the day was a rematch of the 4-0 Raptors and the 2-21 Warriors. The Warriors were looking to avenge an earlier loss and ruin the Raptors dreams of the perfect season. This game started out close and stayed that way throughout the contest until the very end. The Raptors have counted on the smooth ball handling and sharp shooting of guard Anthony Hamilton all season, and today would be no different as Hamilton scored 11 points for his team. Keegan Bramer has also been a reliable source of offense for the Raptors this season, as he scored 8 points in the game. JamesonWyant rounded out the scoring for the Raptors as he added 2 points of his own. The Warriors have counted on big man Brayden Johnson to do the dirty work and score in the lane all season. Today they finally matched him up with a piece of the puzzle that’s been missing all year. Dalton Bzduch played his first game with the Warriors to provide them with the second half of the team's Twin Towers. Even with the two big men to lean on it was guard Jayce Miller that stood out on the court for this game. Miller slashed his way to the basket multiple times on his way to a team high 11 points for the Warriors. Then of course there is “old reliable” Ella Morrow who eats, sleeps, and hits baseline jumpers. Morrow chipped in 6 points in the game to put the finishing touches on a great game by both teams. The thing about winning streaks, is that at some point they come to an end. That’s exactly what happened today as the Warriors gave the Raptors their first loss of the season with a 28-21 victory. The Raptors loss drops them to 4-1 on the year while the Warriors move to 3-1-1. The Raptors were led in scoring by Anthony Hamilton with 11 points. Other offensive contributors were Keegan Bramer (8 points) and Jameson Wyant (2 points). The Warriors were led by Jayce Miller with 11 points. Other offensive contributors were Ella Morrow (6 points), Brayden Johnson (6 points) and Dalton Bzduch (5 points). 8700 Lake Rd. LeRoy, NY 14482 (585) 768-2400 www.falconefuneralhome.com Vern C. LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 13, 2022 by Lynne Belluscio We know some people who would never think of joining a historical society. We’re not sure what they think will happen to them. It’s actually painless. We don’t expect a blood test - -in fact we don’t need proof of vaccination or boosters. We don’t need a list of references or people you have worked for. No photo ID. In fact, we don’t take attendance at meetings. We don’t have an entrance exam. And there is no hazing - - at least not that we know of. You can even pronounce the name of the town “LEE roy” instead of “LeRoy” and we’ll let you join. You can live in Stafford, Pavilion, even Caledonia or Mumford, and you’ll be welcome to join. You don’t have to like Jell-O. We know a few people who hate Jell-O but they are members. You should know that we have about 400 and that includes 100 people who are life members. We just welcomed our newest life member, Denise Duthe. Last year we had 11 people who decided to become life members. Just a note about Life Members. Their $400 membership money doesn’t go into the yearly operations. Instead, the money is put into an endowment and only the earnings and interest are used. Year after year, that money helps the Historical Society. But even if you become a member at a $25 level, your membership is important. And we promise you’ll get your money’s worth. There are four newsletters, and invitations to special events. Members have free admission to the Jell-O Gallery all year. All members receive coupons for a discount in the gift shop. And members receive 2 passes for admission to the Jell-O Gallery which they can give to a friend or family member. Members also have access to the research library and are not asked to give a research fee. So, with all these benefits, what other reasons should encourage you to join the LeRoy Historical Society. One reason, is that in a community, the vitality of its organizations is important. It’s important to take pride in your community. You have nothing to lose in becoming a member of the Historical Society - - - and just because we really want a few more members - - - - the first 50 new members will receive a free Jell-O T-shirt - - your choice of colors.
