Botts-Fiorito Post #576, American Legion, Le Roy, would like to announce with great pride and pleasure Katrina (Kate) Flint as its selection for the 2023 “LeRoyan of the Year Award.” The “LeRoyan of the Year” is to recognize people who demonstrate the following qualifications and attributes: • The man, women or child who exemplifies the true spirit of Americanism, its ideals, love of the flag and country, regardless of race, creed or color. • Good citizenship – by carrying out theseprinciples,oftenbeyond that expected of him or her. • Service to community – signified by excellence in life of purpose and accomplishment. Kate has been resident of LeRoy for the past 22 years along with her husband Jeremy, and three children Nathan (MaryGrace) Flint, Ally Flint and Brock Flint. Kate Completed the LPN program at Genesee Valley BOCES in 2000, She has since furthered her education in the area of Geriatrics by completing her Dementia Practitioner Certification in 2021. Kate is currently employed as Director of Recreation at LeRoy Village Green. Prior to working at the LeRoy Village Green Kate cared for many of LeRoy’s children in her home for almost 17 years. Kate and her family attend the LeRoy United Methodist Church where she wears many hats acting as Chairwoman for Church Council and Evangelism Committee, she’s also the Recording Secretary for the Board of Trustees, and serves on several other committees. In the past 17 years Kate has served in the community in many capacities, LeRoy Youth Soccer Coach, Girl Scout Leader, PTSO, LeRoy Youth Wrestling Board for 2007 to 2015, LeRoy Youth Football Board from 2006 to 2021, serving as the Secretary 2017-2021 and has served on Genesee/Wyoming County Alzheimer’s Association Walk Committee since 2021. As a Board member of the LeRoy Historical Society Board since 2017, Kate is the Chair of the semiannual chicken bbq and Business Membership Committee. She is also on the Nomination Committee, Oatka Festival contact, Dinner Auction Committee and the Mystery Dinner Theater Committee. For several years Kate was on the highly successful Oatka Festival Committee and this past year took over as is Chairperson. The festival was a huge success!!! Kate is known for her kindness, compassion, positivity, inspiring and humorous outlook on life. When you meet Kate there is always a SMILE on her face. To honor Kate, the 54th annual LeRoyan of the Year Award Dinner will be held on October 14, 2023. Social hour is at 6 pm with dinner served at 6:45 pm, at theAmerican Legion at 53 West Main St LeRoy. A limited number of tickets will be available starting on Sept 20, 2023 at the American Legion Tue – Sat from 5 pm to 11 pm, or by calling Joan Fernaays-585-721-7801. Cost is $35.00 per ticket (check or cash only). Betsy Levinson (née Frost), of Dover, MA, formerly of Le Roy, NY, passed away on September 23, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Henry Levinson. Loving mother to David and his wife Sarah and cherished grandmother to Claire and Evelyn. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Norman, and brother, David (Carol) Frost, as well as her nieces and nephews, Heather, Robert, Jill, Marny, Betsy, Judy and Josh. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Janet Frost, of Le Roy, NY. Betsy grew up on her family’s farm (McPherson Orchards) across from the Oatka Creek in Le Roy, NY and was proud to tell everyone she met about growing up on the farm. After graduating from Michigan State, Betsy taught elementary school in San Diego where she met her beloved husband, Henry before returning to the east coast. Betsy worked at John Hancock for many years before leaving when her son was born and spent many years as a real estate agent in Medfield, MA. Betsy was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time gardening and caring for the yard at her home. She also was an active tennis player, participating in several tennis leagues each year. She would read the newspaper cover to cover every day, usually starting with the sports section (loved following the Red Sox and Patriots). She enjoyed traveling to locations far and wide with family and friends and took many cruises throughout Europe and the Caribbean. She was fond of spending time with her friends and family, especially over a good meal. She was always happy to return to the family farm and visit her hometown. Betsy's Graveside Service will be held at 11am on October 2 at the MachpelahCemetery, 71North St, LeRoy, NY. In lieuof flowers, donations may be made in Betsy’s memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (dana-farber.org) or the LeRoy Historical Society (leroyhistoricalsociety. org).
