www.tanys.org Callboard - Volume XX • Issue 2 • Fall 2023 Our Own Bob Frame Elected AACT VP of Festivals AACTFest 2023, held last June in Louisville, Kentucky was a great time celebrating community theatre. More on that exciting week is featured elsewhere in this newsletter. This writing is to call out a special development for one of our own. Bob Frame was elected to serve as the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) Vice President of Festivals. As VP of Festivals, Bob heads a team of three who will facilitate all the state and regional festivals for the 2025 AACT cycle, culminating with overseeing the National Festival in Des Moines, Iowa, June 22-29, 2025. That work has started already as he updates the AACTFest Handbook. Bob is well known to TANYS audiences, as he has served on the TANYS Board of Trustees since 1997 after acting as Festival Technical Director (1991-2007 and 2013-2018). Since 1986, Bob has brought shows to the TANYS Festival from his home groups, the Auburn Players and Harlequin Productions of CCC (who hosted TANYS Festivals in the 1990s and 2000s). He has won Best Production at the TANYS Festival many times, as well as the J. Richard Mahlstedt Award for Excellence in Direction. Bob has received numerous TANYS Merit Awards for direction, lighting, acting and technical production and has brought five shows to the ESTA Festival. He started the TANYS BMI Supply Design Exhibition and Competition in 2008 and has served as its chair ever since. For TANYS, Bob is also a Roving Adjudicator for Learning, Technical and Festival adjudications. Bob’s first exposure to AACT was when he was Technical Director for AACTFest 2011 in Rochester, NY which was chaired by Ruth Legg and Joan Luther. Bob was elected to join the AACT Board in 2013. In 2017, Bob was asked to create the position of Technical Liaison for the AACTFest, coordinating between the 12 competing national productions and the host theatre. He was asked to serve again in 2019 when five youth productions were added to the week of shows, and he repeated this task in 2023. In 2017 Bob also began the National USITT Design Competition based on his work through TANYS. He continued as chair through the subsequent Festival including 2021 when all entrants were virtual due to the COVID pandemic. He won national awards for Best Lighting Design in 2017 and 2021. Bob has served as a state Festival adjudicator as well as an AACT Commissioner numerous times. Due to his diligence and commitment to community theatre, he was chosen to become an AACT Fellow in 2021. The state of New York and TANYS are well represented by Bob Frame at the national level! TANYS congratulates Bob on his new responsibilities as VP of Festivals. Page13 TANYS quilt donated by Cathy Frank, Rome Community Theater Confetti Stage at the 2022 Festival Awards Banquet
