Times and events that threatened and changed not only the theatre, but the world we live in. During these times we found new ways to fulfill our passion for the dramatic arts and new ways to present theatrical productions! Through it all, we have proven that live theatre can, and will, survive. Audiences have returned (in varying degrees) to professional, collegiate and community theatres across New York State and the country in general. Theatre artists, both vocational and avocational, are again being presented with opportunities to do what we love. It will take some time and patience, but I firmly believe that we will see a full recovery from the frightening times that our theatres have come through. We can see this as more and more curtains rise on productions throughout the state and the country. As proof, just take a look back at the resounding success of this past summer's AACT Festival in Kentucky; and look forward to the 2023 TANYS Festival moving to the Northern New York region for the first time, where it has never been staged before! I encourage you to attend this year's Festival in Watertown and help make it a successful showcase and celebration of the best community and educational theatre New York State has to offer. Take a side trip to the nearby Thousand Islands, which is so beautiful during the Fall months. I guarantee you won't be disappointed! It has been my honor to serve as your TANYS President (for a second time), and I thank all of you (our membership) and the members of our current Board of Trustees for your support and dedication to the cause and purpose of the TANYS organization. See you in November! Michael C. Krickmire, MFA Lecturer in Theatre Production Manager & Coordinator of Stage Management Dept. of Theatre & Music Studies, President Theatre Association of New York State, President, Rochester Community Players, 114 Tower Fine Arts - The College at Brockport (SUNY) 585-395-5259 www2.brockport.edu/academics/theatre-music/ A Note from the TANYS President Festival Technician Hello Hey there! This is Joshua Wilson, the Theater Technician for Indian River High School. Our theater is a modern installation, with most of the main architecture brought to us from a capital project back in 1994 and a majority of it being updated every few years. We've had a whole slew of upgrades brought to us in the past few years, including new carpet, LED fixtures, and an upgraded projection system. Our proscenium arch is 60' across, 24' tall. The stage is 43’ 8” deep from the front apron to the back wall, and 52' from deck to ceiling. Our audience consists of all removable seating, and can have a maximum of 1367 seats, balcony and orchestra combined. All that to say, there’s a lot of room to work with in our theater! In our sound area, we have a Yamaha LS9-32 console, with the setup and ability to add 32 extra channels over ethernet through two Yamaha Tio16ci08-D I/O racks. We have 4 JBL VRX932LA as a center array, and two hidden JBLs for side fill. Our microphone selection is primarily Shure, with around 28 Shure ULX packs for our musical season. In our lighting area, we have a Cognito-2 board, which controls two 24 circuit Strand Lighting dimmer racks and an Octo Pathport DMX/RDM gateway. Elation Seven Battens, Chavet Ovations, and Source 4 Pars and Lekos make up a majority of the lighting for the stage, providing a wide color gamut and a variety of choices for fixture placement. Truly, the space uses the most of the modern equipment it’s been given. And on top of it all, we have an awesome group of stage crew kids that helms it! Our crew works almost every event that takes place in the theater and all of them show a passion for the technical side of things. Without them, this theater would not be where it is. Their ideas and work ethic truly elevate this particular environment to new heights. Welcome to Indian River!
