LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 4, 2018 LeRoy Youth Wrestling LeRoy Youth Wrestling Team finished in 4th place out of 22 teams this past Sunday at the Webster Field House. Le- Roy was behind Powerhouse, Brockport, and Fairport and edged out the host Webster team despite not having perineal point scorers Colin Greene and Ryder Stiles who were out due to illness. The Wojo brothers, Carson “Nutter” Stiles and Jor- don Green paced LeRoy, taking 1st. Sammy Bogue's first tour- nament will always be memora- ble. The athletic, smiling upstart finished 3rd. Bogue won his first 2 bouts with a combined score of 36-1. He would then drop a difficult match toWWE’s Luke Harper’s son, Brodie Hu- ber. Harper a former WWE Intercontinental Champion and member of the Wyatt fam- ily was in his son’s corner and had Brodie’s intensity sky high when Huberboy hit Bogue with a pedigree. Bogue, bounced back in his final match to take a 3rd place trophy that he would grip all night with a smile that can’t be duplicated. Jaxson Cook has been ver- sion 2.0 the last few tourna- ments placing 2nd twice. This week he placed 4th and met up with his rival MacKenzie Mi- esch who is ranked 4th in NYS. Miesch got the best of Cook this time but look for Jaxson to close the gap with his rival soon. Carson “Nutter” Stiles fist pumped the air when he saw his bracket with Riley Francis- co’s name on the top. Francisco invaded Nutter Island in the 1st tournament of the year, taking a 6-5 victory. Nutter has been working very hard since then in the practice room and it all came together Sunday. The under- sized effort boy ripped through his bracket beating Starwitz (pin :09), D’Agustino (15-1), Koppers (8-0) and Francisco (8- 5). Nutter is 8-1 in his last 9 matches losing only to Karson Haseley (Cobra) who is the #2 ranked kid at 55lbs in NYS. David Wojtaszczyk is the name that nobody wants to spell or see in their wrestling bracket. David tore through his match- es decimating every opponent and easily taking 1st place. The only points scored on him where when he “cut them loose”. Da- vid intentionally let Arijun Lynn (Pittsford) up to score 1 so he could score 2. This technique is demoralizing for David Wo- jo’s opponents and look for this trend to continue. Austyn “Circus” Silver- nail has been wrestling at a high level all year. The NYS 2017 5th place finisher game includes, attacks that are fun- damental, quick and most of- ten mistake free. In Webster, “Circus” made a mistake that cost him 1st place. He was in control the entire match and got a penalty for locking hands and Provenzono (Fairport) took advantage. Despite that huge upset Silvernail took home 2nd and a learning experience that will improve his game. Jordon Green had to be persuaded to wrestle in Web- ster by the board President. Green should thank the gifted persuasive leader after Green easily throttled all of his oppo- nents. Jordon’s game plan is simple and effective. He blasts a double leg and then works his opponent to their back. Green a novice is having a Cinderella season. Joey Reschke’s ups and downs are apparent on the mat and off. The uber talented 4th grader is creeping his way back to fundamentals instead of funk . Reschke dropped a tough opening bout that had his coach- es baffled. Then the former funk master roars back with 2 pins to take 4th. Dawson “Dojo” Wo- jtaszczyk shredded his bracket easily taking 1st. In the finals, he faced his former practice partner from G2, Parker Den- ning. Denning’s post match face told the score of a difficult 10-0 dominance by “Dojo”. Denning, an excellent kid and wrestler was overwhelmed by “Dojo’s” relentless pressure. Joey “Cross-Face” Steph- any has been working hard all season. His effort on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday’s paid off Sunday. Stephany lost his first match to an athletic Fair- port grappler and could have easily wilted the rest on the tour- nament. “Cross-Face” rallied in front of an amazing group of LeRoy fans that stayed to support him. He won his next 4 in a row, dominating his ad- versaries quickly and efficient- ly. Stephany’s efforts made the westbound travel home well worth the trip as he finished 2nd in a group of talented upstarts. Ryan O’Geen, Alex Doty, Andrew “no shoes” Greene, Ve- ronica Kehrer, and Tristen WIe- seltier also competed with Keh- rer picking up her first victory of her young career & O’Geen closing in on the sports details. The LeRoy Youth Wres- tling Club has their inaugural quad dual this Friday in Pen- field. Hilton, Pittsford, & Penfield welcome LeRoy as a late entry. Also, some of the advanced grapplers will test themselves Super Bowl Sunday at Rush Henrietta Wrestlefest, where the winner of each class takes home a championship ring.
