CUSTOMIZED T-SHIRTS • HATS • JACKETS • TOWELS Submitted by: Steve Kochmanski The LeRoy peewee Knights hosted the Dansville Mustangs Saturday, for the final game of the season. The game had been built up all week as a championship game as the two best squads in the CYFL peewee division would be facing off. The Knights hold a two game advantage on the Mustangs, beating them the previous two meetings. The Knights had to come from behind in the final minutes of the previous game to eek out a win, thus giving the Mustangs confidence heading into this one. Weather would definitely play a factor in this game as it was windy and wet. A cold, muddy field would set the stage. The Knights started with the ball and on the second play of the drive Luke Mosko would break outside for a 68 yard Touchdown! Carson “Nutter” Stiles would come just short for the conversion. LeRoy 6-0. The Mustangs would go on a six play drive into Knights territory before a fumbled snap was recovered by LeRoy’s Jesse Hubbard!! With the offense fired up, the Knights would go on an eight play drive with runs from Mosko,Stiles and Bogan. Roland “Stiff Arm” Goodenough would then bust through the middle for a 39 yard Knights Touchdown! Conversion attempt failed. LeRoy 12-0. The Knights defense forced a punt on the Mustang drive as LeRoy looked to run away with this one! The Mustangs not looking to go quietly, forced a punt of their own. The seven “ Trenchmen” of LeRoy were not happy with this. As you know the Knights only have 11 players so the “Trenchmen” also play defense. They wanted that ball back! Jacob Kochmanski would force a Mustang fumble recovered by fellow “Trenchmen” Ben Singleton! Knights ball!! The weather decided to play its role as the Knights fumbled the ensuing snap to give the Mustangs the ball right back. The Mustangs would get a big run on first down and five plays later Tyler Caldwell (#8) would punch it in for the Mustangs. LeRoy 12-6. As time was ticking down in the half the Knights looked to get back in the endzone. On third down Drew Beachel would gain 16 yards for a Knights first down, in Mustang territory! The Knights drive would end just outside the red zone as time expired in the half. LeRoy 12-6. Defense was the name of the game for most of the third quarter. Goodenough would force a fumble and recover it for the Knights. The Mustangs would force a turnover on downs as Beachel was just shy of the marker. The Knights would come out and force a four and out of their own. The Knights would then get a 69 yard Mosko touchdown as Jackson Hubbard and Luke Offen opened a big hole to run through. It would be the only score of the quarter. LeRoy 18-6. The Mustangs would waste no time getting a score of their own. On the third play of the fourth quarter Tyler Caldwell (#8) would find the endzone and pick up the conversion to cut into the Knight lead. 18-14 LeRoy. The Knights would pick up 13 yards from Beachel behind a Michael Warner block on first down. The Mustangs would stiffen up and the drive stalled forcing LeRoy to punt. The Mustangs with all the momentum would march into Knight territory from just outside their own 20 in five plays. The defense on its heels and starting to look fatigued needed to make a play to stop the Mustangs. Goodenough would make it happen as he would strip the ball from the Mustang back and take it 60 yards for a Knights Touchdown! The conversion failed making it LeRoy 24-14. Dansville would answer right back in six plays for another Caldwell touchdown. His third of the day, as well as adding the conversion. LeRoy 24-22. That would be the final score of the day as the Knights took over with under a minute to go and Dansville out of timeouts. Victory formation for the Knights and a 24-22 win!! This game was a true testament of sportsmanship, discipline and the fight to never give up from both teams. The CYFL and its coaches have groomed a great group of young men from all the pee wee squads this year. The future will be a bright one for all of them as they continue to learn and play the game of football. Great job all around and especially to the pee wee “ironman” Knights as they finish the season unbeaten!! Go LR!!
