LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JUNE 2, 2019 LeRoy Little League Results Yankees 6 Twins 4 The Twins defense started the game out strong with Grady Gilligan on the mound. Gilligan would force 2 ground outs and strike out 1 batter to hold the Yankees scoreless in the top of the first inning. Wyatt Draper got the start on the mound for the Yankees. The Twins would jump out to an early lead in the bottom half of the inning after Grady Gilligan and Holden Sullivan both reached base and scored in the inning to put the game at 2-0 after 1. In the second the Yankees Matt Covert would single and later score on a Simon Greene RBI single. Connor Elmore also added a hit in the inning but he and Greene would be left on base. Wyatt Draper would then take the mound for the Yankees and strike out 3 straight batters. After 2 Yankees 1 Twins 2. In the third Jake Higgins would lead off the inning with hard hit ball down the first base line for an inside the park home run. Wyatt Draper and Matt Covert would also get hits but were left on base. The Twins answered back in the bottom of the third adding 2 runs after Holden Sullivan doubled and DJ O’Geen drew a walk. Both would score in the inning to put the game at 4-2 in favor of the Twins. In the fourth inning Jude Sherman would lead off driving the ball over the left field fence for his second home run of the season. Jake Higgins would then single, steal second, and then score on a Wyatt Draper RBI single. Anthony Warner would add a hit in the inning for the Yankees, but he and Draper would be left on base. The Yankees would hold the Twins scoreless in the fourth to tie the game at 4-4. Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth. In the top of the six the Yankees would score 2 runs after Jude Sherman doubled and Jake Higgins drew a walk. Higgins would then steal second, and on some aggressive base running score in the inning. Wyatt Draper drew a walk and would score in the inning on a Matt Covert RBI single. In the bottom of the sixth the Twins would load the bases and add one run after Grady Gilligan drew a walk and scored on a DJ O’Geen RBI single. Holden Sullivan would also single but was left on base. Final score Yankees 6 Twins 4. Indians 5 Red Sox 0 The Indians and Red Sox met for the fourth time this season on a rare sunny and dry Tuesday night. The pitching matchup would feature Noah Kaczanowski on the mound for the Indians with Alex Stephany on the hill for the Red Sox. The Indians would put the first run of the game on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Jagger Smith was hit by a pitch and would come around to score on a RBI double by Adam Woodworth. The Indians would then load the bases but Alex Stephany worked out of a jam by striking out the final batter of the inning. For the next 3 innings the score would remain unchanged thanks to good pitching from Kaczanowski and Stephany and some timely defense from both teams. However, in the bottom of the 5th inning the Indians would add to their lead. Adam Woodworth led off with a walk and would come around to score on a RBI triple by Austin Bogue. Cam Wilson would then reach on an error with Austin scoring on the play. Jack Currin would then single and RBI groundouts by Martin Macconnell and Kaleb Lang would make the score 5-0. In the 6th inning, Landon Stoddard would lead off with a walk but Adam Woodworth would retire the final 3 batters to end the game. For the Indians, Noah Kaczanowski pitched 5 shutout innings, striking out 5 and allowing 3 hits. Woodworth would pitch one inning, striking out 2. For the Red Sox, Alex Stephany and Hayven Cordes handled the pitching duties and allowed only 5 hits, striking out 5. Offensively, the Indians were led by Austin Bogue with a triple, RBI and run scored while Adam Woodworth added a double, RBI and run scored. Jagger Smith, Jack Currin and Deacon Queal also added hits. For the Red Sox, Hayven Cordes, Alex Stephany and Cole Tonzi had hits. Tigers 12 Yankees 3 The Tigers and Yankees closed out their 4 game season series on the Wednesday leading up to the holiday weekend. After a scoreless first inning by both teams, the Tigers would strike first in the top of the second. Zanders Staba would reach on a single and move to 2nd on a stolen base. A steal attempt to third base led to the ball scooting away and Staba would cross home plate to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would add a bunch in the third inning. With one out, Donovan Gaillard reached on a single. This would start a 6 run rally. Alex Spezzano followed with a single, Xavien Walker doubled, Jacob Iten singled, Elijah Iten doubled and Zander Staba singled. All six would score when Evan Rose (double) and Tommy Clifford completed the hitting for the inning. The Tigers would add another run in the 4th when Alex Spezzano led off with a single and scored on Xavien Walkers double. The 5th inning would be the last and both teams would light up the board. (4:00 Games are not permitted to begin another inning after 5:45). The Tigers started the inning by scoring 4 to push the game to 12-0 with all four runs scoring with two outs. Nate Pangrazio walked with one out. After a fly out to center field, two walks would load the bases. This was followed by a double by Elijah Iten and singles by Evan Rose and Avante Walker. Jayce Panepento singled and Peyton Privitera, Jude Sherman and Jake Higgins all reached on walks. Then with two outs, Anthony Warner singled two runs in with 2 RBI making the score Tigers 12, Yankees 3. This would be the final score. Offensively or the Tigers, Alex Spezzano was 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Xavien Walker was 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Elijah Iten, Zander Staba and Evan Rose were all 2-4. E. Iten with 2 doubles and a run scored. Staba scored twice and Rose added a double and run scored. Jacob Iten added a single, walk and run scored. Avante Walker singled and scored. Donovan Gaillard singled and scored a run. Nate Pangrazio walked and scored a run. Alex Spezzano threw 4 scoreless innings while recording 6 strike outs. Evan Rose and Elijah Iten teamed up to pitch an inning. Anthony Warner led the Yankees with 2 hits and 2 RBI. Jake Higgins added a single, walk and run scored. Connor Elmore singled and reached after being hit by a pitch. Cameron Riggi singled. Jayce Panepento singled and scored a run. Peyton Privitera walked and scored. Jake Higgins (6 K’s) and Cam Riggi (4 K’s) handled the pitching duties for the Yankees. Indians 6 Orioles 2 The Indians and Orioles would meet for the first time this season with Adam Woodworth getting the start for the Indians and Chase Cummings on the mound for the Orioles. The Orioles would strike first in the bottom of the first inning. Chase Cummings would single followed by another single from Luke Lathan. Then Jace Jedrewski would blast a RBI double scoring Cummings. However, Adam Woodworth would settle in to retire the next two hitters leaving two runners on base for the Orioles. The Orioles would then increase their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Cam Maxwell would draw a one out walk and Mia Strollo followed with a single, her first little league hit. Maxwell would then come around to score on a passed ball and throwing error. In the top of the 4th inning the Indians would get on the board. Adam Woodworth led off the inning with a walk and was put out at second after a fielder’s choice off the bat of Austin Bogue. Cam Wilson would then single and Martin Macconnell would also single, scoring Austin Bogue. Jack Currin would then lay down a perfect bunt single that would score Cam Wilson, evening up the game 2-2. In the top of the 5th inning, the Indians would break the tie. Noah Kaczanowski led off with a single which was followed by a single from Jagger Smith. AdamWoodworth would them single to left center, scoring Kaczanowski. Then Austin Bogue would hit a long fly ball that would hit off the top of the fence, resulting in a double that scored Smith and Woodworth. Then Martin Macconnell would also hit a double to deep center, scoring Bogue and making the score 6-2 which would end up being the end of the scoring. For the Indians, Adam Woodworth went the distance, scattering 7 hits and striking out 6. For the Orioles, Chase Cummings and Brayden Chase handled the pitching duties combining to strike out 7 Indian batters. Offensively, the Indians got 2 hits and 2 RBI’s from Martin Macconnell and 2 hits from Cam Wilson. Austin Bogue added a hit and 2 RBI’s while Noah Kaczanowski, Jagger Smith, Adam Woodworth, Jack Currin and Deacon Queal also added hits. For the Orioles, Luke Lathan and Brady McClurg had 2 hits, while Chase Cummings, Jace Jedrewski and Mia Strollo each added a hit. Red Sox 6 Twins 2 The Red Sox and Twins faced off for their first match of the season in the Thursday night game. Holden Sullivan started on the hill for the home Twins. The Sox started off hot picking up 3 runs in the 1st. Landen Stoddard and Hayven Cordes both drew walks, then Peter Clark ripped a triple into right field scoring Cordes and Stoddard. Then Clark would score on a passed ball. In the bottom 1 the Twins would leave 1 baserunner stranded after a Grady Gilligan walk and Holden Sullivan double. The Sox would fail to do much in the 2nd and 3rd inning. The Twins would get back in the game in the bottom of the 3rd when brothers Ryan and DJ O’Geen drew walks to start things off. Then the hard hitting Joey Reschke doubled to left field scoring the O’Geen boys. Cole Tonzi would then make a huge catch in center field robbing Sullivan of a possible home run to get the Sox out of the inning. Red Sox 3. Twins 2 In the top of the 4th Cole Tonzi ripped a single to get on base and then stole 2nd and 3rd base and scored on a passed ball. The Sox then shut down the Twins in the bottom of the 4th. In the fifth the Sox picked up another run after Stoddard doubled then stole 3rd and home to score. The Sox would strike out the side in the bottom of 5. The Red Sox tacked on another run in the top of the 6th when Joey Vernacinni picked up an RBI double to make it a 6-2 ball game. Isaac Stella would come in for the save in the bottom of the 6th, and the Twins would go 1,2,3 to end the game. Pitching for the Red Sox was Landen Stoddard going 5 innings striking out 8 and allowing only 4 hits. Isaac Stella finished the game throwing 1 inning on 9 pitches. Hitting for the Sox were Cole Tonzi with 2 singles, Peter Clark (2b) 2 RBI, Joey Vernacini (2b) 1 RBI, and Landen Stoddard (2b). Pitching for the Twins was Holden Sullivan going 5 innings striking out 9. Liam Grayson finished the game going 1 inning on 15 pitches. Hitting for the Twins were Joey Reschke with a double and 2 RBI’s, Holden Sullivan (2b), and Jack Egeling, and Sierra Burke both with a single apiece.
