Superintendent of Schools
OnTuesday,April14,2015, the
Le Roy Central School District
Board of Education adopted the
2015-16 school budget. The Le
Roy Board of Education, along-
side the District administrative
team, has worked diligently to
createabudget thatmaintainsand
enhances educational programs
while ensuring fiscal responsi-
bility to the community. Budget
development isalwaysastrategic
and thoughtful process. This
year,wewere fortunate to receive
someadditional funding from the
State in the formofa reductionof
theGap EliminationAdjustment
(GEA) anda small adjustment of
the foundation aid that we rely
on for over 60% of our budget
revenue. Of theover $1,000,000
inGEA owed to us, we received
about 60% of it back this year.
Wewill use this additional fund-
ing to offset some of the local
share, as well as an anticipated
reduction in the tax rate for the
2015-16 school year.
As always we look to create a
budget that is responsive to the
manystakeholdersweserve. The
districtmission,visionandannual
goals drive the development or
enhancementofourprogram.We
worked toensureour studentsare
prepared for the challenges and
exciting experiences that await
them when they leave Le Roy
Central School District. We are
pleased to be able to extend and
restructure our programs to con-
tinue this important work, while
being fiscally responsible to our
community.
Next year our total budget will
be
$22,821,506
which is an in-
crease of
$212,521
or .
94% (less
than 1%)
. The bulk of this
increase is due to operating and
contractual costs.We also plan to
adda1.0 instructional technology
teacher, a0.5elementary teaching
position, a 0.5 business teacher
and some additional support ser-
vices in speech and occupational
therapy. Tooffset these increases,
we have one retirement that will
realize some cost savings in the
replacement andwewill eliminate
a0.5 art position.Wewill alsouse
some of the additional funding to
lower our local share by $73,000,
resulting in a 0.8%
decrease
on
the levy. This is obviously below
our tax levy limit of 1.6% that the
district could impose under the
tax cap calculation. The
tax rate
,
themost important number to our
taxpayers, is estimated tobe com-
parable to the tax rateof twoyears
ago. We are estimating this to be
at
$23.79
. I always like to remind
people that this rate isnot setfirmly
untilAugust and is just anestimate
at this time. Weareproud tobring
you this very well-balanced and
responsive budget.
