Itwasachillymorning,but the
sunwas shining and the players
were eager to start as theLeRoy
Little League Baseball opening
day was Saturday, April 25. A
veryniceparade from theAmer-
icanLegion to theLittleLeague
Field began the day. This was
followed by a tremendous cer-
emony which included trophy
presentations from 2014 to the
Tigers (HistoricalCup), the Indi-
ans (ScanlanCup), and honoring
the 9/10 and 11/12 year old all-
star teamswhobothwonDistrict
3 titles last year. The ceremony
wascappedoffas theseasonwas
dedicated to FrankBordonaro, a
coach who passed away unex-
pectedly last July. Members of
his familyand theGeneseeCoun-
ty Sheriff’s Department made it
an extra special day! Sowith the
familiar words of Coach B, “Be
Ready Out There!” announced
to the crowd, itwas time toPlay
Ball in2015!
Twins 1 RedSox 0
Openingdayfor the2015Little
League seasonwaskickedoff in
stylewithanepicbattlebetween
the Twins and Red Sox. The
pitching for both teams was as
crispas theearlymorningspring
air. ColinMcCulley started out
on themound for the Twins. He
pitched well, striking out eight
batters and walking two in 3
innings ofwork. EthanBeswick
came in and kept the shut out
intact. He worked hard on the
moundgettingout of acoupleof
bases loadedsituations.Beswick
ended up with eight k’s while
walking three. Aiding theTwins
pitchers was their catcher, Cole
Rauscher. He was outstanding
behind the plate.
Andrew Loftus also put in a
strong pitching performance for
theRedSox.Hestruckout10bat-
ters and only gave up onewalk.
With such stellar pitching the
hits didn’t come easy. The Red
Sox could only come up with
four hits. They were all singles
off thebatsofJohnnyPanepento,
Cole Sullivan, Grant Gilligan
andAndrewLoftus.
The Twins could only muster
up two hits, but boy were they
timely. Colin McCulley led off
the fourthwith a base hit to left
field. Then Joey Brennan deliv-
ered a clutch hit to right field
that sent McCulley from first to
third. Next up Ethan Beswick.

afielders choice.
WhiteSsox 3 Indians 0
The Indians and Whitesox
startedoff theseasonwithagreat
game which was dominated by
excellent pitchingbyboth clubs.
Ben LaBombard started on the
mound for the Indiansand struck
out 3 out of the first 4Whitesox
batters. The Whitesox starting
pitcher Ryan Friend responded
with striking out the side in the
first inning. In the second in-
ning, theWhitesox were able to
squeeze in a run. Pitchers from
both clubs continued to keep
base runners at bayuntil thefifth
inningwhenBryceLathanof the
Whitesox ripped a single up the
middle that scoredKenny Saun-
derswhohad reachedon awalk.
TheWhitesox added another run
in the 6th tomake the score 3-0.
Ryan Friend of the Whitesox
pitched anohitter going all 6 in-
ningsstrikingout18andallowing
only 1walk.

relief pitching for the final 1 1/3

1. TheWhitesoxhittingwas lead
by Ryan Friendwho collected 2
singles. BryceLathanalsohad1
hit and 1 RBI. Kenny Saunders
added 1 single and scored a run,
JackDuyssen added a single and
scored a run and Mike Buccina
added a run aswell.
Tigers 4 Yankees 2
Game 3ofOpeningDaybegan
with a text book bunt by Ryan
Shirley (his first LL hit) and
singles byZachBaker andCody
Lytle to load the bases with no
outs. Winning pitcher Giavanni
Caccamise (1-0) proceeded to
strike out the side to preserve a
0-0 tie. In the bottomof thefirst
theTigers took an early 2-0 lead
behind a singlebyG.Caccamise
and fundamental base running
by the rest of the Tigers. The
Yankees tied the score in third
inning behind the first home
run of the 2015 season hit to the
oppositefieldbyZachBaker and
a hard hit ball by Cody Lytle.
The next two and a half innings
witnessedaclassicpitchers’duel
that included12 combined strike
outs by both pitchers. On to the
bottom of the fifth which began
witha6pitchwalkengineeredby
Charlotte Blake who eventually
scored thewinning runon aRBI
by Giavanni Caccamise. The
Tigers entered the top of the 6th
leading4 -2. AaronLeoneof the
Yankees doubledwithoneout to
bring the tying run to the plate,
however Giavanni Caccamise
struck out the next two to pre-
serve thewin.
Cody Lytle dazzled on the
moundby strikingout 15batters.
ZachBaker showed hewill be a
force to be reckoned with at the
plate this year going 3-3 with
a single, double and home run.
CodyLytleadded2singles. Ryan
Higgins had a single, while and
AaronLeone added a double for
theYankees.
Giavanni Caccamise recorded
14 strike outs. Gianni Ferrara
added a single and run scored.
Cam Greene also scored and
was a defensive stalwart behind
the plate.
A’s 5 Orioles 2
The final game of theOpening
Day Quadruple Header featured
two expansion teams as theAth-
letics took on theOrioles.
TheA’s struckquick in thebot-
tom of the 1st. ChaseBordonaro
led of with a sharp single and
quickly stole 2nd and 3rd. After
a Brady Fix walk, Bordonaro
would score on awild pitch that
movedFix to3rd. JakeMarcello
proved to be a tough out fouling
off5straightpitchesbeforeawild
pitch would allow Fix to score
making it 2-0A’s after one.
The score would remain 2-0
until the topof the thirdwhen the
A’swouldstrikeagain.Following
a triple to the gap, Bordonaro
would scoreagainona singleby
Fix.AidanRobinsonwouldreach
on an error and Fixwould score
on another wild pitch to extend
theA’s lead to 4-0.
The scrappy O’s would come
back in the topof the fourthwhen
a single byCoryWallacewould
score pitcher Alex Panepento,
whohad reachedbaseonasingle
to leftmaking the score4-1.The
O’swouldaddanother run in the
bottom of the 5th as the Strollo
brothers would team up with a
pair of singles allowingyounger
brotherDrew to scoreonanRBI
by Tyler. Panepentowould dou-
blemovingDrew to thirdbefore
the A’s escapedwith a fine play
byShortstopBordonaro.
TheA’saddedan insurance run
in the5thwhenBradyFixwould
score on a Luke Rider single to
make it 5-2. That score would
holdupas theA’smanaged their
firstwin of the season.
A’s pitcher Aidan Robinson
would throw a complete game 7
hitter, strikingout 11.Panepento
had a fine outing for theO’s al-
lowing just 5 hits while striking
out 10. AdamRisewick pitched
the last two outs for the O’s al-
lowingonehitwithonestrikeout.
Chase Bordonaro went 2 for
3 with two runs and Brady Fix
went 2 for 2 with a walk and
three runs for theA’s.LukeRider
pitched inwith anRBI single.
For the O’s, Panepento would
go 3 for 3 with a run scored.
