Four New York communities
– including three in the greater
Rochester and surrounding area
-- are celebrating theirfirst round
of success in theAmerica’s Best
Communities competition, a $10
million initiative to stimulate
economic revitalization in small
townsandcities.Webster,LeRoy
andLivingstonCounty,plusNor-
wich inCentralN.Y., aremoving
ahead in the competition. Each
will receive $50,000 to develop
comprehensive strategies to ac-
celerate the revival of their local
economiesand improve thequal-
ityof life in their communities.

announced thatWebster, LeRoy,
Livingston County and Norwich
have advanced into the quarterfi-
nals of this innovative competi-
tion.Theyareamong the50quar-
terfinalist communities that now
havesixmonths tocomplete their
revitalization plans and compete
for up to an additional $3million
to bring their ideas to life.
In themonths ahead, the com-
munitieswillpartnerwithamajor
corporation that will provide
guidance and support throughout
thenext stageof thecompetition.
TheAmerica’sBestCommunities
Adopt-a-CommunityProgramhas
brought together50distinguished
companies from across the U.S.
to support the quarterfinalist
communities. Each corporation
will be pairedwith a community
to serve as their strategicmentor,
whilealsocontributing$15,000of
the$50,000 inprizemoney.These
corporatepartnerswill forge rela-
tionships with local leaders and
focus their efforts on successful
implementationof the innovative
business plans.

Sharing comments on LeRoy
making it to the quarterfinals,

As the newly appointed Area
General Manager of Frontier’s
Rochester East operations, Bill

After launching in September
2014, the
America’s Best Com-
munities
competition success-
fully attracted entries from 138
applicant teams, representing347
communities across the country.
All 138 applications were re-
viewedbyapanelof independent
expert judgeswhoselected the50
winningcommunitiesbasedupon
anobjective set of criteria.
America’s Best Communi-
ties
is a multi-stage, three-year
competition that will provide $4
million in seedmoney and other
support to assist communities
as they develop new economic
growth strategies. The top three
communities — those with the
most innovative proposals being
effectively implemented—will
sharea totalof$6million inprize
money. Thewinning community
will be awarded $3million, with
$2 million for second place and
$1million for third.
