Growing an economy is like
farming, it is dependent on rain,
sun, the perfect temperature, the
right seedsand thestarsaligning.
Growing an economy is depen-
dent on creating the right envi-
ronment of talented workforce,
capital, and shovel-ready sites
with industry specific capabili-
ties. Asyouhaveseenevidenced
by themajor growthof the dairy
products industry in theGenesee
Valley Agri-Business Park the
Genesee County Economic De-
velopmentCenter (GCEDC) has
found the right mix of assets to
grow our economy.
In 2013 the GCEDC Board
moved forward with a plan to
create a 75 acre shovel-ready
Food andTechnologyPark in the
TownofLeRoy.Witha (-17.6%)
or 500 jobdecline in the last five
years this project was identified
as a way to stem the “tide of
decline” inLeRoy. Theproject’s
goals included rejuvenating a
historically vibrant manufactur-
ing town, growing local taxbase,
creating jobs, and growing the
overall regional economy.
With fundingand in-kindcom-
mitments from theTown/Village
of LeRoy and the GCEDC the
project was scheduled to move
forward in2014. However, after
further investigation it became
evident that the park would
require additional funding to
provide the right utility capacity
needed to attract companies. At
the same time, the Town of Ber-
gen’sexistingcorporateparkwas
facing infrastructure limitations
that could preclude growth at
AppleTreeAcres.
This combined need prompted
the GCEDC to find, and apply
for, Frontier Communications
America’s Best Communities
(ABC) Grant program with the
assistance of local officials from
BergenandLeRoy. Itwasanatu-
ralfit to jointlyapply, and todate
therespectivemunicipalitieshave
beenworkinghand-in-hand tode-
velop theeconomic revitalization
plan thatwillbesubmitted tohelp
us advance to the next round of
the grant competition.
Through this process we are
convinced that both corporate
parks will move forward, attract
newcompanies, andgrow tohelp
our economy for generations to
come. Just like in agriculture
pre-planning, hardwork, and the

ing product for our community.
